I want this for Minnesota football

For the the inexplicable ones have been Bowling Green, the blown lead collapse against NW, and the utter face plant against Iowa this year. I know every team lays an egg now and again, but I dont recall Fleck pulling off an upset where we were 20+ point dogs (bowling green), having a comeback...

Frustrated by stagnation, Mark Coyle puts more money into Gophers men’s basketball

Id echo marginally not markedly improved during his tenure for football. Last three years included two 8-4 regular seasons. If we go over to the football board, im hearing that this would be a pretty successful year if we could get to 8-4. If we were closer in time to 2019, id probably say...

    Buffs - Coach Prime

Maybe the problem this year has been the lack of flashing the players watches at opposing fans. I think the modern analytics show that is an underrated aspect of the game.

Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell will return to coach the Badgers in 2026

Long enough to be worried about the Badgers' wing span?

6-3 including 4-2 in B1G! I got a kick out of Ryan Burns' "Go find joy" rant!

I said almost that exact thing at the time. You cant be "better than your record" forever, at some point you are exactly as good as your record.

6-3 including 4-2 in B1G! I got a kick out of Ryan Burns' "Go find joy" rant!

This tends to be my view. But the corollary to not apologizing for how we won against weak opponents is that I am also not willing to get too excited about a strong showing in a loss to a good opponent. If a win is a win, then a loss is a loss.

    FIRE GREG HARBAUGH

The Robb Smith comparison is spot on. So many people where arguing until they were blue in the face about how the problem was the players he had weren't just good enough. He got fired mid-season and replaced with a better DC, and amazingly those exact same players were much better almost instantly.

Describe Gophers win over MSU in 1 sentence

That type of error is the kind of thing that leads to conspiracy theories about the booth or league office secretly calling down to the officials to overturn it. If we had been on the other side of that against OSU in overtime, that is exactly what this board would think happened.

Post Game Thread: Gophers Gutsy in Comeback Win, Bowl Eligible!

I was at the game, did someone watching tv get an explanation of how the PI flag got picked up in overtime? I absolutely agree there was not PI, but that cant be reviewed, right? Dont the refs usually confer if there is a dispute before announcing and marching off the penalty? Seems weird to...

Athletic: There are far more college football jobs on the market than quality coaches

I can't believe how many ADs are duped into the idea that you have to give a coach neverending extensions otherwise it will be used against recruits. Whenever one of our football or basketball coaches gets an extension after a bad season, and someone complains about it on the Gopher Hole, the...

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

Two things can be true at the same time: Cignetti can be showing that there is no magical ceiling that historical doormats in major conference are constrained by if they hire the right coach and it is more likely that a school hires the next Fickel or Frost than the next Cignetti. I would hope...

    Scoggins/Kill Article

Seems like this board has two kinds of people: those who ignore facts to dispute that Fleck is doing a better job than Kill, and those who ignore facts to overstate how much better Fleck is doing than Kill did. Fleck's B1G winning percentage is definitely higher with too big a sample size for...

    Predictable PJ

My post didnt say the defense was the problem, nor did it argue whether the 3 man rush was a good idea or a bad idea (though ive shared my thoughts on that elsewhere). I was just answering the question of what we did that was conservative, and 3 man rush on third and long certainly is.

What grade would you give the Gophers coaches and players in Iowa loss?

It was stunning to see almost an entire team, coaches and players, all show up as disinterested and unprepared for a rival game against a team that, while we were underdogs, was by no means out of our league. I know not every week is your week, and sometimes you are going to lose one you wish...

There's no way Ferentz predicted that we would draw up a 13 yard punt. That caught him off guard and he had to scramble.
