2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

That begs the question: What will PJ's extension and raise look like this year?

    This is a fireable offense

Sexual assaults? I recall the lewd incident where there was a lady wanting to set some kind of Dinkytown sexual escapade record and a good portion of the team were inclined to oblige, and the lady later decided she regretted her decision, and no charges were filed against any of the team. I'm...

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

The source of the anticipated new revenue wasn't indicated in the old media reports but I would assume that is the case. I don't know the answer to your second question. The reporting that the U makes to the NCAA doesn't break out the sources of what it refers to as "contributions." In the...

Reusse: Is P.J. Fleck the answer to lift the Gophers out of mediocrity?

Ticket revenue by year isn't readily available but it can be parsed with a modicum of effort, In FY24 the U had FB ticket revenue of a hair over $14,000,000. In 2017, ticket revenue was just shy of $10,000,000. In 2019, it was closer to $9,000,000. In 2014, it was $14,00,000. So based on...

Athletic: There are far more college football jobs on the market than quality coaches

I don't think Fleck is a hot commodity but I wonder if he becomes a candidate at at least somewhat attractive jobs due to all of the openings? Its not inconceivable that an AD, striking out on his top 12 or 13 candidates thinks, what the hell, this oily sloganeer has had the best sustained...

In hindsight, this outcome is not that surprising. This is Mark Gronowski's sixth year as a starting college QB.

I watched nearly every game. He was elite when he had Pierre Strong, Isaiah Davis and Amar Johnson (NFL Backs) in the backfield, Garrett Greenfield and Mason McCormick (NFL lineman) on the line, Tucker Kraft and Zach Heins (NFL TEs) at TE, and the Janke twins (both spent time on NFL practice...

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

    3) The players were recruited by and coached by said coaches.

    We stink.

If a significant number of the bowl seasons are 6-6/7-5 and non bowl seasons are 4-8/5-7, I don't really see a difference. I might watch the Quick Lane Bowl if I'm stuck in the house for some reason but wouldn't make it a priority. And 1-2 more B1G wins doean't mean a whole much more to me...

    This is a fireable offense

He hasn't run it into the ground. He inherited a 9 win team and has generally kept it on a 7-8 win plane.

    I'd take Illinois.

In hindsight, this outcome is not that surprising. This is Mark Gronowski's sixth year as a starting college QB.

Gronowksi is a decent, but not great, passing QB. At both SDSU and Iowa, the biggest limitation was and is the pass catching talent. At SDSU, Mark was very effective until the 2024 season after his best pass catchers left. Even in 2024, his numbers improved markedly as the season progressed...

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Nobody said that, but the original premise was in defense of the coaching staff, as if they had no hand in the shit product on the field.

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

I smell KOC and KAM sending a draft pick for some putz that isn't any good who then gets beat out in training camp next year by an UDFA.

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Sure, but he was recruited by the coaching staff, handed the keys, coached all week on the field and in film, etc & etc. Players make boneheaded plays and one boneheaded play isn't necessarily a reflection of coaching but the whole body of work on Saturday wasn't just players making bad plays...

2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Whether PJ would take another job certainly would come down to money. Are there openings at schools that could and would pay him more than he's making here? It seemed PJ was interested in the UCLA job until he figured out its a poverty program and couldn't pay him.

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Is that not, at least sometimes, a reflection of coaching?

AT WHAT POINT DO YOU SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

You know, the $3 or $4 million doesn't necessarily need to be paid to KC or Rossi. There are other coordinators.

Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

Right. I don't think its reasonable to fire Fleck and I'm not one of the "this is as good as it gets" crowd. The fact of the matter is that he still wins more games than he loses, although the losses are so often so maddening. But I don't think its unreasonable to ask more of him and I also...
