Alex had a very solid weekend. As for the 3rd hitter Cook has me confused. Friday night he starts Crowl and she has her best match, maybe ever. Saturday he starts Kinney and she has her best match with double digit kills. Sunday comes and Crowl starts again and plays so-so in the first set then...
Nobody should get too excited about last night's win. South Florida was terrible. Error after error. A decent division 3 team could have put up a better fight.
Alex played well. Alex is so good in the back row I view her as a 6 rotation player. I think she can still get more efficient as a scorer. She took a lot of aggressive swings last night which I liked. Crowl had far and away her best match of the year too. She was solid on the attack and blocked...
We have one proven consistent reliable scorer in Julia Hanson. If we want to have a great year we need another one. I'm hoping for one of you to see the opening and seize it. You all have the talent, go do it!
Jess Mruzik who carried them to their National Championship last year was also a transfer. That said, I'd have gladly found a spot for Kennedy Martin on the Gophers.
Gilk struggled in the Vandy match. Kinney was better which might be why she got the start. I would have preferred to see Gilk get the floor time over Crowl. Gilk has a much higher upside. Crowl tops out at meh.
That sounds right to me. There's a bunch of chumbalones on Volleytalk who are obsessed with Crowl. Drives me nuts. Also a bunch who are fascinated with Olivia Swenson. We've never seen her play. Given the current state of our hitters I'm sure if Cook thought she was good enough to play she'd get...
Crowl played the first set of the Cal Poly match. She was dreadful. Appeared to be limping after that and was not in uniform against Ball State or St. Thomas. Was in uniform last night but did not play. Someone needs to explain the Crowl fascination to me. This is her 5th year in the program and...
A win against a decent opponent but the play was inconsistent. I thought McKenna Garr played pretty well in her first start at libero. On the flip side Kate Thibault struggled a bit. The middles were invisible until late in the first set and after that they were very good. Myers especially...
I suspect Cook started Crowl because of her experience. Tough opponent, first match, big stage. While I understand that thought process how many times do you need to see her play to know she's seriously limited. She's in her 5th year and has never done anything of note. Assuming Wookie can't...
I've watched a few matches. Kelly Kinney isn't playing much. Jordan Taylor is playing a lot and playing extremely well. Strong on the block and getting kills. She's serving pretty well too. Can't wait to watch her this fall. Not sure who's time she's going to take but it's going to be impossible...
Not a massive loss in either case. We could really use a big time hitter. If there's one available that would be my first wish. Kennedy Martin would be a dream. Might be others who could help us. Beyond that I suppose a DS or another middle would also be nice.
Nothing harsh, or wrong, about your assessment Ruffda. In order to make a jump I think we need a healthy Wucherer and a jump from one of the other hitters. If Wookie doesn't get healthy we need two of the others to make a big jump.
