Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Well, it’s relegation, but yes, I’ve been seeing the parallel from the time they announced that 3 teams would be left out. It does add intrigue to the bottom of the table battles.

Horstman: Penn State men’s basketball set for bout with slow-paced Minnesota

Horstman - whoever that is - is trying to sound like analytics guy but apparently doesn’t understand that pace has nothing to do with efficiency. This is a Wolverhampton v Leicester type of battle to avoid relegation from the BTT.

Big Ten Tournament if it were held today; Gophers currently hold a spot

I'm seeing that Iowa just lost Freeman for the rest of the year, and previously saw that NW lost Barnhizer for the year. I guess these bits of news bolster the Gophers' chances at playing in the BTT (especially owning the tiebreaker over Iowa).

Ben Johnson on why he didn’t play Asuma in 2nd half (video)

These are better stats because it gives you rates rather than raw numbers - I filtered for conference only. Mitchell and Patterson take much better care of the ball than the other two. They really didn't yesterday, but that was abnormal. You need Odukale for D. Asuma is a better shooter, for...

Ben Johnson on why he didn’t play Asuma in 2nd half (video)

Everyone seems to be in agreement about the overly dogmatic 2-fouls-and-you-sit rule. It wouldn't matter if it was basically any other player. There is no replacing Garcia. On the not playing Asuma in the second half, I put this in the second-guessing because of outcome category. The team on...

As College Hoops’ Penultimate Month Arrives, SEC Holding Firm With 13 Tourney Bids

Pedantically, the final 4 is in April, so March is the penultimate month of college hoops (for only 4 teams, though).

Ben Johnson on why he didn’t play Asuma in 2nd half (video)

The Asuma fan club on this board is well-represented. The first half was productive for him mainly because he became a primary scoring option with the benching of Garcia with 2 fouls (separate coaching issue - let's stick with the Asuma is god narrative). He played well, but the fact of the...

***OFFICIAL WASHINGTON AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I was worried about Osobor coming into this - he's not scoring all that well, but he is a foul-causing magnet, and that definitely hurt the lineup continuity. Gotta find a way to combat this. It's doable, Wash is not gonna be able to keep at this level.

B10 has more money than every other conference. Higher end talent will be attracted to B10,

Big Ten Tournament if it were held today; Gophers currently hold a spot

The B10 has a lot more revenue to share. Doesn't change the balance within the conference, but they should be able to compete for and beat out most non-B10 schools for higher levels of transfer talent.

Big Ten Tournament if it were held today; Gophers currently hold a spot

In regards to the bolded, well ... I do. We'll disagree. The fact he has to fill out a whole roster wouldn't sway me in either direction - with the revenue-sharing money kicking in and plentiful PT available, the sales job is easier for whoever the coach is. The poor Ben crowd will say he'll...

    Fire Ben Johnson

If you believe the primary reason for the inability to get higher level transfers is the NIL situation, then yes. With the revenue sharing kicking in, whoever is coach should no longer have that as a primary excuse. With the added attractiveness of major PT available, it should be a much easier...

Big Ten Tournament if it were held today; Gophers currently hold a spot

It's grayer than you are portraying. People aren't convinced Coyle won't make the change (I guess "people" in this case is me), they're concerned about scenarios where retention could be justified. It's not the same as the Whalen scenario money-wise. I believe the goalposts of making the tourney...

Big Ten Tournament if it were held today; Gophers currently hold a spot

Let's say they win somewhere between 6 and 8 conference games. While the rooting side of the brain might be entertained, the bigger-picture side is thinking about a kind of purgatory regarding the coach. That result - coupled with the impending revenue sharing - makes the decision to retain a...

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

I'm for fuller arenas, but they need to make sure the technology is up to date and functioning - there was about a 10-minute delay because the shot clocks were not synced on both ends of the floor. That might have had nothing to do with the age of the building or how few games are played there...

Rick Pitino loves himself some Rick Pitino

If I were a Kentucky fan, I think the perfect reaction to his introduction would be …nothing. The opposite of love is apathy. That won’t happen, of course.

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Washington is not a good team, but they are not incapable of jumping up and biting someone. Their one win was Maryland, albeit at home. If you haven't seen them play, they have a thick, but surprisingly agile big (Great Osobor) who can go off - he scored 28 in the loss to Purdue. He does most...

OK, replace them, too. :) FWIW, SS had WF in his latest bracket. 7-2 in the ACC.
