***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA SENIOR NIGHT (JOHNSON'S LAST HOME GAME?) IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Add in the absence of Klesmit, who plays 30 min per game. You started with the difference in coaching. Wisconsin has fully embraced analytics, wanting to limit shots to 3s or layups on offense and force tough twos on defense. Wisconsin had only 10 of their 33 2pt FGAs from the midrange (they...

***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA SENIOR NIGHT (JOHNSON'S LAST HOME GAME?) IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I think you get this, but there have been a myriad of Badger players from MN who aren't really viewed as "misses". Yet they end up as multi-year starters on really successful teams. Nolan Winter is the next in line of these guys - is he a star/difference maker? Not really yet, but he's at least...

***OFFICIAL wisconsin AT MINNESOTA SENIOR NIGHT (JOHNSON'S LAST HOME GAME?) IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

With Klesmit out, Janicki is the next man up. His ppg average is because he’s the 5th guard normally. He’s very serviceable as a freshman walk-on, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him get major minutes next year with who Wisconsin graduates.

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

The percentages are win probabilities. The chances of losing all three are only around 44%.

Ben Johnson Post-Game Following Northwestern Loss

We'll see. It does look like he's a freshman deferring to the upper classmen - deferring to the point of barely contributing. If he were distributing assists at a reasonable rate, that would be one thing, but he's not. He also turns it over too much for a supposed primary ballhandler. That's...

    Fire Ben Johnson

It was occurring to me today that Minnesota's wins this year were a bit lucky so I went back to look: Michigan: trailed most of the game, got it to OT and hit a near half-court buzzer beater to avoid 2nd OT. At one point in the game, the probability of victory was 6.6% @iowa: close through...

    Northwestern Women Forfeit LA Games

If the home team canceled the game due to an active catastrophe, why does the away team have to forfeit?

Wow - Marcus: Johnson is arguably at a point in his tenure when he might also need for people to be patient with him.

Iowa is 0-1 vs. Michy, The 3-way tie won’t stand because Iowa plays NW this weekend and one of them goes a game up in the win column (also becomes 2-1 against the other two in case a 3-way tie reoccurs). Iowa: @ NW, MSU, @Neb NW: Iowa, UCLA. @MD MN: @Neb, Wisconsin, @Rutgers That Rutgers...

Johnson: We tried everything...We set up the locker room like it was a visiting locker room at UCLA just to mentally take them to a different place.

Iowa has this, too. The game on Saturday had Washington shooting into the sun in the second half.

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Am I right that MN wants NW to win that one because of the Gophs head-to-head against Iowa? A lot of other moving parts of course.

***OFFICIAL NORTHWESTERN AT MINNESOTA BATTLE OF 14-13 TEAMS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Expectations change during the year. I think there ARE people happy that this is where the team is after starting 0-6. Some of them write newspaper columns, apparently. As for the game tonight, this might be a more difficult test than the casual fan is expecting - Torvik has it at less than a...

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

They’re doing this with basically only one player who wasn’t on the team last year, Tonje, and he plugged in for a similarly attacking player (Storr). They also lost big contributors in Hepburn and Wahl. It’s not an upgrade in personnel so much as it is a change in style.

Well, yes, but he’s probably 3rd in the line of stepper-uppers for that team after Tonje and Blackwell. But it’s no surprise - Wisconsin’s MO.

@MNVCGUY - are you now willing to admit that the scenario is playing out just as some of us thought it would if they managed to get to this point? You were pretty confident and dismissive of our viewpoints. They sweep PSU and NW and the chorus will grow louder.

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Being in the rotation of a senior-laden fringe top ten team as a redshirt PWO freshman is actually pretty impressive. Janicki could end up being a pretty good piece for them moving forward as their seniors depart. Wisconsin really has a way of fitting their pieces together so that every player...

You want a "magic number" for Gophers to hear name called on Selection Sunday? Go with 22

Another factor the selection committee is looking at this year is "Wins Above Bubble". On Torvik, MN is currently -1.8, which is ranked in the 70s. That site also assigns WAB values to each remaining game. Sweeping PSU and NW only adds a combined 0.5 to the WAB. Interestingly, the away Nebraska...

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT UCLA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Mara played a lot more - and productively - for a stretch (pun intended) of about 5 games starting at the end of January, but less lately. When he’s in, he’s generally very high usage.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT UCLA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

UCLA is #1 at causing turnovers in the country - when they don't get a turnover, offenses shoot relatively well against them. If MN can take care of the ball and hit a fair number of 3s, it could get interesting. I am a little concerned about their bigs, however - the 7'3" dude might feast.
