Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

It may be difficult to trust the Gophers now but I don't think that last night's game was simply one that Michigan State let "slip through their fingers." The game against Michigan was one of their two best conference efforts this season but they managed to score a touchdown with 7 seconds left...

Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

I think people believed that the Gophers were a middle-of-the-pack team before this game but they played well below that today. We certainly didn't look like the 9th or 10th best conference team.

Describe the Gophers loss to Iowa in 1 sentence

That's about the size of it. This team has a low ceiling. If it's playing below that ceiling (bad or mediocre teams), the team can be competitive, possibly even good enough to win. If it's playing a team clearly above that ceiling, forget it.

Describe the Gophers loss to Iowa in 1 sentence

You must not have seen the 55-0 loss to Iowa in 2008.

Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

Yeah, I think when a team is 1-10 in the last 11 games against an opponent, it's pretty unrealistic to call that team a "rival."

Post Game Thread: Hawkeyes Humiliate Gophers

Yeah, the defense wasn't really horrible. They gave up only 274 yards from scrimmage and they were on the field a lot. The offense was horrifically putrid. Good thing we play one of the conference's worst defenses next week although that's no guarantee.

All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

They've fired two coaches since Bert left. In the past 8 years they've had 3 winning seasons (9-4, 7-6, 7-6). They've had two 2-win seasons in that time period and they're 2-5 this year. Why would Fleck go there?

Minnesota @ Iowa 2025 - Floyd of Rosedale - Media Predictions

Pretty much the same probability Nebraska had before the game.

The Athletic: College football fans may need to get used to losing more often. Is anyone ready?

Hasn't worked out so badly for us so far. We were middle-of-the-pack before NIL and Revenue Sharing and are still middle-of-the-pack. I'm all right with it. Play 12 games, usually play a 13th, and usually have a winning season. Now, if Fleck leaves, I'll be worried.

Predict the Score Thread: Minnesota at Iowa, Battle of Floyd of Rosedale

Maybe but those conferences are lower in total sports revenue than the Big Ten and SEC.

Minnesota @ Iowa 2025 - Floyd of Rosedale - Media Predictions

I agree this should be a competitive game and Minnesota could win. I don't quite agree with the QB conclusion just yet simply because their QB is pretty mobile, can pick up yards on his own, and ours hasn't shown himself to be to this point. Their QB also is very mature. Ours seems to have a...

    Gronowski Presser

That actually not so bad for a QB because the sack yards are deducted from the total rushing yards. For example, Drake has -34 rushing yards on the season for an average of -2.3 yards per carry.

Tell me I shouldn't be worrying about Northwestern

Yeah, I don't get that either. There are five teams who are winless in conference so far this season but Northwestern is 3-1 and in a 7-team tie for second place.

Say something nice about Iowa, 2025 edition

I've actually spent a lot of time in Iowa in my life and, although I live in the outer metro now, I did live in southern Minnesota during my earlier years in this state. I agree about the topography. One thing I enjoyed was travelling through Iowa at night during the 4th of July period. It...

    2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

It's not impossible that Illinois could end up in the CFP. They have two losses now but they finish the season with @Washington, Rutgers, Maryland, @Wisconsin, and Northwestern. They were destroyed by Indiana but they came closer to OSU than any other team has so far.

    2025 Bowl Projection Tracker

You can always count on CBS Sports to give us the worst possible bowl projection until we have the number of wins that makes it impossible for them to do that. At the opposite extreme here is Pro Football Network. The Gophers would have to have one hell of a finish to end up in the Citrus.

    Whatever. Just beat Iowa.

We beat them at Kinnick two years ago with one of Fleck's worst teams. I agree that Iowa lately has been mostly a bridge too far.

    Whatever. Just beat Iowa.

Cincinnati is 6-1 and ranked (#21). That turned out to be a much better win for them than it seemed at the time. I agree that the rest of their schedule to date, other than Michigan, has been underwhelming. Their remaining schedule is challenging despite not having any of the top three...
