Football has the shortest season, no off-season leagues (at least not in MN) other than 7 on 7, which isn't a big deal here and isn't really the same game anyway. It doesn't have the private groups/boosters/companies funding the sport, and probably most of all, it doesn't have parents spending...

    Wrigley Field

That's super interesting. I didn't realize the surface was that large. But you wouldn't need to center the field. You could put it at one end and put up temporary bleachers (or none) on the other side. It would still make more sense than Wrigley.

I still think it's just wild that teams like the Bears, Giants and Eagles all played in baseball stadiums for decades when there were more football friendly venues available in their respective cities.

I believe I was the one who said that, and it was actually a combination of the three. Starting practice that early would likely be an unpopular decision and I'd worry in some cases that it would lead to kids choosing not to play at all. And the issue with hockey tryouts during youth football...

I coached quite a few kids in the Wayzata youth program who will play for Providence. But I still won't root for them.

Some absolute beatdowns tonight. I guess St. Peter wasn't very good after all. I see Medford took a forfeit. What's the story there? Roosevelt over Richfield is an upset. A friend's kid plays for Richfield. They expected to win big.

I agree. The whole public-private discussion here is pretty much moot with open enrollment. Check out the Ohio formula. It's more complex than trying to send a man to Mars.

They may not publish adjusted enrollment, but 21 states use some kind of a formula to adjust classes. A poll conducted for the March 2017 issue of High School Today revealed that 21 state associations use a multiplier or other plan to level the playing field among their schools. Among those...

Also, if the cutoff is 313 adjusted, then Roseau and Norwood-YA should also be playing AAA and Redwood Valley should be the largest AA school. But both those schools are playing AA. But I'm not seeing the same level of outrage there. Why is Luverne playing AAA and Pillager AA when Pillager has...

The real number doesn't matter though for classification. Pillager's number for 2023-2025 was indeed 298. I agree with most of your opinions on adjusting enrollment numbers vs. using actual enrollment. I don't like it. But ultimately, it's the adjusted number that matters at this point for...

Remember, these aren't actual enrollment. They are adjusted for free-reduced lunch, so South probably has a much larger actual enrollment. I know I have that PDF saved somewhere.

Pillager's adjusted enrollment is 322. Here's who they played with their enrollments. Park Rapids 350 Staples Motley 262 Hawley 259 Perham 473 DGF 409 Barnesville 232 Thief River Falls 453 Warroad 268 So they played four bigger schools, and four smaller schools. What seems to be the gripe...

I don't think there's a limit to how many can dress for football. To give an extreme example for basketball. Wayzata has about 150 eighth grade boys playing basketball across travel and SW league. Minnetonka has even more. 5-8 of those kids will make varsity.

And how much of that is because of what we often discuss here. When top athletes decided to drop a sport, it's very often football because of the short season. When parents are paying tens of thousands of dollars for their kid to play year-round hockey, hoops or baseball, with different...
