What grade do you give Gophers coaches in win over Rhode Island?

Maybe you're grading on the season as a whole (as short as it's been so far). They did not go from terrible coaches to great coaches in one game. I'm grading on what I saw on Saturday. I saw a staff that decided, maybe for the first time in eight years, that they should take advantage of a...

Uniforms for opening night on National TV?

I don't know the answer on whether they're reused, but trashing 85 helmets is nothing in today's college football. This thread is a good indication of that.

    UNC Attendance

I expect it will be close to a sellout, if not sold out. We sold out two of the past three Thursday nights when we played good teams. I feel like we go through this countdown often when we hope for a sellout and aren't there two weeks ahead of time.

Shooter: Buzz about a remodel of Williams Arena could diminish now that the Gophers athletics department could end up having to budget some $22MM

They might both want 10k + stadiums, but the Wolves would want 18,000 and the Gophers would want 10,001, if not less. The Gophers are already playing in a half-full arena; at least the Barn is theirs.

2024 Minnesota football predictions: Ranked No. 72 by RJ Young

This kind of preseason diss used to really bum me out. The fact is Maryland and Rutgers are in the 30s and North Carolina is in the 40s, and we play them. They seem like very winnable games, though no guarantees. Win them and nobody remembers this. Then you look at Wisconsin at 27 and Iowa at...

Mike Gundy seemingly admitting to driving under the influence "a thousand times in my life" in defense of star player's DUI arrest.

Yes, it's up to the states, but in about 2000 Congress required states to lower the limit to 0.08 or risk losing federal highway funds. Minnesota didn't want to, and we were one of the last states to make the change. Rep. Tom Rukavina famously said at the time, "On the Range, we wake up at .08."

A deep Duck dive into the 2024 Gophers.

I thought it was a very good article. There's a lot that could be discussed, but I found this to be interesting, coming from someone outside our fanbase who clearly watches film. We've been hearing about Fleck wanting to move Carroll inside for two years; some may ask why.

Poll: Which Game Are You Most Looking Forward to?

Does USC have the same clout as they used to? Probably not. Have they fallen like Nebraska? No. Nebraska hasn't been to a bowl game since 2016. USC played in the Rose Bowl that year and has been to six bowl games since. They finished #3 in the AP poll in 2016 and 12, 21 and 12 since. So, yes...

CFN: College Football Head Coach Rankings (#54. PJ Fleck, Minnesota; BT Rank: 12)

"The Gophers are consistently good" is something I haven't heard anyone but a few diehards say in 50 years. I'll take it.

SEC athletic director expects NCAA to allow sponsor logos on fields to help pay for athlete revenue sharing

How is this different than the Gophers having a big, ugly Cambria logo on the Williams Arena floor? It is currently allowed in basketball but not football?

Media Prediction Thread: Minnesota at UCLA

I'd say if the Gophers lose to UCLA it will be a long season.

STrib: Gophers chase their NIL version of FedEx's $25 million gift to Memphis

Just for reference, FedEx had revenue of $90.2 billion in 2023. The $25 million is 0.02 percent of that. If the gift is $5 million per year, as noted above, that's 0.006 percent of revenue.

Doogie says Payne got “north of $500K, more than entire Gophers” payroll

I don't see any scenario that makes large NIL payments go away. Schools can pay players whatever they want, but that won't stop boosters at many schools from adding to that. Collectives as they operate today may change or go away, but there's nothing to stop the outside money from flowing in.

    Cavs fire Bickerstaff

Hoiberg went from college, where he was successful, to the NBA, where he wasn't very successful and was fired, before returning to college -- probably because he wasn't going to get another NBA job soon. Plus, that was before college BB became the shitshow it is now. I think most coaches are...

Action Network HQ has the Gophers winning five games.

It always sucks to see us so low, but we'll have a whole bunch of chances to beat teams listed above us and prove them wrong.

HOW LONG WITH THIS BUYING PLAYERS TREND LAST?

It's not likely that a school will decide not to play the NIL game. However, I think it's very likely that donors will get tired of giving. Thank god for people like Bob Klas, Dana and Katie Harms, Julie Jensen and Larry Shelley -- donors mentioned in the Strib article about this yesterday...

    Seat license

It's a good idea. I doubt that it's allowed, but I'm only guessing. If it's not allowed, maybe DTA donations could at least be applied to our Gopher loyalty score.

Gopher Basketball Portal Money - $1 Million

Here's how I look at it. in the 1990s Williams Arena was the best venue in town -- full and loud. The Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight runs started it and made it feel like we were on the verge of something big. But the next six seasons -- 90-91 through 95-96 -- we were about .500 and lived on the...

Oregon transfer Brennan Rigsby commits to MN

This is how I feel about it. My feelings about Carrington leaving were that you can find a lot of guys to do the same thing. Rigsby can replace Carrington's role and play some PG when needed. I'm assuming -- hoping -- he isn't our starting point guard but will be a valuable contributor.

    All Things Transfer Portal Thread

If Lindsey came in thinking we'd roll into the 2024 season with two scholarship quarterbacks, or that a third would be happy to sign up as only a backup during his entire Gopher tenure, that's on him. I find it hard to believe Fleck would make him believe that. I think there will QBs who are...
