    Where will Ben land?

I would think if he wants it he could be a head coach at a D1 mid major somewhere. He had awful performance here, so I don't think he will be highly sought after, but also no major scandals and at least now he has been exposed to the workings and nuts and bolts of being a D1 head coach (it's a...

Hole Poll: What grade would you give Mark Coyle in his decision to hire Ben Johnson as the Gophers coach?

The grade you give the hire at the time it was made is like the preseason football rankings when Nebraska is looking pretty good. All hype, no games have been played yet. Like the football rankings, what really matters is how a hire is graded at the end of the tenure. In this case, a clear F.

    COYLE FIRES BEN JOHNSON!!!!!!

Definitely better than when, if memory serves, Tubby heard about it through a media leak before he was told to his face.

    COYLE FIRES BEN JOHNSON!!!!!!

At least when he does it in a middle of the night press release, the communication leaves the public actually knowing whether he was fired. If he does it live in front of cameras, we don't know if it was a mutual decision or if he is going to honor the full contract (props to Johnny for...

    Fire Ben Johnson

How is he on the selection committee? I almost can't think of a person whose opinion i would take on basketball performance less seriously.

Does anyone have Mark Coyle’s email?

I don't think he emails, he texts his wife about how he expects to be in the NCAA tournament

ESPN's Jeff Borzello: "As of time of publish, it seems Ben Johnson is likely to get another year at Minnesota."

But Whalen wasn't fired, right? I thought Coyle said it was a mutual decision.

    Future Gopher Coach Discussion

I really don't feel like this is the time to be talking about replacing the coach. I've had my share of frustrations with some of his coaching and recruiting. That said, when this year is over, we will have been conference champions in 3 of the last 4 years (including this year where we shared...

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

We've seen different results. Tubby's years we're not amazing nor where I wanted/hoped them to be, but they were not close to the same ballpark as Johnson's. Even Pitino saw a level of success appreciably better than Johnson's. It's not like Johnson is just the most recent in a long line of...

    Drake wins. Next UMN Coach?

E You could make it to year four year with a performance that would have you fired much earlier at Iowa or indiana

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

Coyle will give a press conferences to tell us whether or not Ben will be the coach next year, and we will finish that conference with no idea whether or not Ben has been fired.

Poll: Should Mark Coyle give Ben Johnson a 5th year?

In what world would he deserve another year (absent hanging a banner by winning the BTT and making the NCAA tourney)? If Tubby's six year track record was worth firing, how historically good would Johnson's next two years need to be to be better than that after year six? We have a low bar based...

    Fire Ben Johnson

I can't believe that keeping him is even a serious consideration. I was in a weird place coming into this season. If we had gone .500 in the B1G, made the tourney, and been one and done I would still have felt like he had a very fire-worthy four year track record, but also felt like it would be...

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

Ive seen the last 25 years. I also know which coach has produced the worst results during the stretch. If we are going to emphasize that we have had a very poor 25 year run, it must take a special level of ineptitude to stand out as the low point if that quarter century.

Seth Davis: Ben Johnson has done an incredible job with this team. One of the elite coaches in one of the toughest jobs in America.

One that is giving even money on whether the next gopher mens basketball coach posts a big ten record better than 29%?

Seth Davis: Ben Johnson has done an incredible job with this team. One of the elite coaches in one of the toughest jobs in America.

If i could get even money that the next coach has a better B1G record than Johnson does, i would take that wager in an instant.

Seth Davis: Ben Johnson has done an incredible job with this team. One of the elite coaches in one of the toughest jobs in America.

Im still not sure I follow the "exceeded expectations" argument as one that is favorable to the coach. Between our coach's first three years with the team, how we looked out of conference, and the roster the coach built, people's predictions as to how we would perform in the big ten were so low...
