Is it fair that Notre Dame is independent?

I've always thought the "they wouldn't be this good if they had to run the power conference gauntlet" was cheap circular logic used by people who claimed a 12-0 midmajor wasn't very good to try to explain away them beating a top team in a bowl game. Easy to say and impossible to disprove. Sure...

Shooter: And word in coaching circles is that Tom Crean would love to have the Minnesota job.

If we get a new coach, and they post a better B1G winning percentage than Johnson at the same University, will you admit that coaching has some bearing on performance?

    Fire Ben Johnson

If the narrative that Johnson was not Coyle's pick and he can't fire him, Coyle should have quit. Coaching decisions are the AD'S job, so you need to be able to say "either I'm the AD or I'm not." That would be the same thing I would expect Fleck to do if Coyle tried dictating to him who starts...

A little off topic, but the single worst call i ever saw in any level of football was an intramural flag football game I played in at the U. We were in defense, one of my players jumped the route, leapt in front of the receiver, and intercepted the football. The ref through a flag on him for...

PJ was hired 8 years ago today. What grade would you give the Fleck era?

I the out cream puff non conference point is well taken, though we also had a non-con loss against a top 10 TCU team. I think where our analyses probably differ is that I don't see "leaving wins on the table" as a plus factor. Assuming equal schedules (and obviously no two schedules are...

PJ was hired 8 years ago today. What grade would you give the Fleck era?

I feel like the extent to which he has elevated us to a new level is overstated. We had 8-4 regular seasons 3 of 4 years before he arrived, and that is basically the level we are still at (and now we have been below that level for back to back seasons). I still think he has been an upgrade for...

Gophers currently 360th out of 364 in D1 team FT

If only we were like the good teams, where players never need to try to make free throws while fans make noise. With hurdles like that, no wonder we are struggling.

What grade would you give the Gophers 2024 football season?

If we would have played to those 4 or 5 win expectations, it would have been a pretty awful year (the fact that prognosticators expected us to be bad doesnt mean it is less bad if we are as bad as they expect). Also, the schedule is a lot less daunting if you look at postseason rankings than it...

    B1G vs SEC

The B1G would dominate it, and then the SEC apologists would say that you can't make judgments based on a bunch of one-off out of conference games, and you instead need to look at how the SEC teams do against the SEC schedule to prove how strong they are.

    B1G vs SEC

It's a new year, and I'm trying to have more empathy, so im not going to judge a coach too harshly for grasping at straws to try to spin the facts to make his second-tier conference appear relevant.

Mayo announcers may have been worst ever

He would have explained that the SEC makes really tasty hypothetical mayo.

Mayo announcers may have been worst ever

I think the winner of the mayor bowl and the pop tarts bowl should play in the gimmick bowl. It could run during the national championship similar to how the puppy bowl airs during the super bowl. Then the announcers could eat pop tarts covered in mayonnaise. I actually appreciate that this...

Post Game Thread: Gophers Are Mayo Bowl Champs!!!! Finish 8-5!!!

Great to get another win, and i really enjoyed the play calling on both sides of the ball. Thought it put us in a great position to win. Sorry if this was covered in the in game thread, but I've got a question on the muffed punt fair catch where our guy was blocked into Perich. I'm taking the...

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Far be it from me to have faith in Coyles decision making, I think he's get this one right. And if he doesn't, that's a coyle problem, not a Johnson one. Kind of like the scene in the office when Pam said something to the effect of "when a 12 year old crashes a car, you don't blame the kid. You...

***OFFICIAL PURDUE AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I disagree with this take. If we win enough to make the NCAA, they won't be meaningless wins (and, with how bad our resume is so far, we'd have to go on a pretty amazing run). Short of that, no amount on meaningful wins will bring Johnson back. Coyle put the coach and fans on notice that that...

    Fire Ben Johnson

That's always the danger with quirky coaches. Brewster would have quite the following and the "keep your chili hot" tshirts would be worn all over the stadium if he had been good. (I didn't like the Brewster hire because of his lack of experience, really didn't like his results, but I actually...

+1 The way officials avoid deciding the game is by making the correct call, not trying implement some weird value code for when some calls should or shouldn't be made.

The Gophers would DOMINATE the SEC

Yes it is. I like the way PWR uses RPi. I've always thought one of the elegant things about sports was that when you took the field, all that mattered was whether you won the game or not. Not whether you passed Kirk Herbsteit's eye test or impressed some spreadsheet.

The Gophers would DOMINATE the SEC

My problem with that system is it still includes human polls. I want (a) no human votes and (b) no margin of victory component. Only thing that should matter is whether you win or lose, not how dominant you look (either to humans or models).
