2025 Minnesota High School Football Thread

I come from wrestling as my main sport. Kids literally wrestle the entire year now. Some of these kids are wrestling like 100+ matches a year. Been a real issue with injuries with how physical the sport is.

Yeah, you have 5 starters and maybe 2-3 kids that rotate in a fair amount. So unless you're one of the top 8 kids on the team you're riding pine or playing JV. And Basketball participation is still pretty high I think so even making JV can be hard. I'm not sure what the number of kids is...

Yeah, happens o all sports though. Like wrestling, for the big kids. Sometimes these really athletic big guys drop out of wrestling because they're in line for a football scholarship and it's just another possible way to get hurt or another thing that costs a bunch of money and you have to do...

Yup, that is the issue in MN. I think usually our highest level recruits tend to be lineman. 8 of the top 15 for 2026, 7 for 2025, 9 in 2024.

That is what I'm seeing in class 4A too. Even the top 5 teams don't seem to be as loaded as usual.

Yeah, I would say that's accurate but I'm not so confident in Marshall. They looked pretty good so far but Rocori, Hutch, and WIllmar all look much better now than they did earlier in the season. Then St. Peter has looked solid but mostly against AAA schools. I would not be surprised one bit...

Well class 4A is a very interesting class this year. Nobody really standing out as the clear top dog, IMO. #1-Byron 7-0 Key wins: Stewartville (27-26), K-M (34-20), Holy Angels (42-12), Hill Murray (42-6) #2- Marshall 7-0 Key Wins: Rocori (28-0), Fergus Falls (27-14) #3- Rocori 6-1 Key Wins...

    Early line: Nebraska -5.5

I think that is going to be the key to the game. If Nebraska insists on throwing the ball a lot, I think that favors the Gophers.

Ranking the top 10 freshman QBs in college football (9. Drake Lindsey, Minnesota)

Yeah, give him a top end WR and they would be hard to beat on the offensive side of the ball. But maybe adding a TE like Voss to the mix might do as well. Martino was a big time recruit, maybe he becomes that guy.

Ranking the top 10 freshman QBs in college football (9. Drake Lindsey, Minnesota)

Having one of the best 10 freshman QBs in the country bodes well for the Gophers. If he's top 10 now he should maintain being at top 20 QB or better QB through his career. Personally, the kid looks like he has NFL talent even more than Brosmer from an arm talent and athleticism POV. Not sure if...

Yeah, it would be a good upset if Minneota lost. They should probably win by 25+ Yeah, hadn't heard abouyt the A-B-E issues and not familiar with the rosters but if Upsala has the bigger more athletic team you would have to take them. Pillager looks good for sure.

Ok big matchups for this week: 9-man: Mabel-Canton(6-0) vs Kingsland (5-1) Kingsland's only loss was a close one to Spring Grove and M-C narrowly defeated Spring Grove. This is likely a winner takes #1 seed in the section. Red Rock Central (6-0) vs Wabasso (6-0) Section 2 showdown for the...

Yeah, that would be best. Just looking at AAAA not sure how you make it work pairing sections. Section 1, 7, & 8 are all pretty isolated within the class. 3 & 6 make sense and 4 & 5 makes sense.

Yeah, Marshall is the clear favorite. Easily beat Hutch and Rocori. Not sure what happened with Marshall but they used always play a lot of smaller schools and come into the playoffs with a nice record but never tested but this year they have a schedule that compares to what Hutch, Becker, and...

Yeah, McLeod County football is down. GSL and Hutch used to dominate. GSL been down nearly a decade at this point and this is the second year in a row where Hutch does not look like they are a serious contender to even get out of the section. Granted in AAAA Becker is down, Rocori is down...

Mason says it's "mind boggling" why Eslinger, Spaeth and TC don't have their jerseys retired at The U

I don't like retiring jerseys, particularly at the college level. I mean if you want to have a Gophers Football Hall of Fame and do a little display and hang his jersey in there that seems fair. These were really great players they probably deserve some sort of recognition.

Fleck Postgame: “Everything that possibly could go wrong, went wrong. That falls on the head football coach”

Yeah, I mean it feels bad to lose a game that was clearly winnable. I feel like there was a good chance that they get a TD and maybe win if not for the muffed punt. But at the same time the offense wasn't good most of the day so who knows. Defense overall played well. I think the Gophers...

Minnesota At Cal 2025 - Media Predictions

This is a big measuring stick for the Gophers for this point in the season. Cal looks to have a good team this year, so a win could really be a jumping off point for the Gophers heading into the conference schedule.

Can Drake throw the ball 40 yards in the air?

Yeah, It always hits the smartass side of my brain that's thinking, "What? Do they throw bounce passes in football now?". 😂
