Ohio State's Ryan Day says Big Ten deserves 4 AQ spots in CFP

The only times a 4 team auto qualifier will help is if there are teams on the bubble. Even with a single team AQ and considering the revenue difference between the P2 and all other conferences, it will be rare not to always have at least 3 teams and usually 4 teams qualify from each of the P2s...

Great Reusse column on his lifelong fandom of our Gophers!

Yes, but I disagree with how he often used his talents. I think he thought that if he pummeled Gopher athletics he might cause them to make changes. I think the better tactic would be report on the positives, but don’t sugarcoat the bad. Report on the things we as fans would not know without...

    Seeding Changed for Upcoming Season

The money is there. Coyle just doesn’t cut it as a good fund raiser. The University has had great success raising donations for the endowment fund, so it doesn’t make sense that Coyle can’t even pay off the Athlete’s Village with donations.

    Splash commits

247Sports has his OT rank as 44, but the composite is 54th, so at least one of the services has him ranked below 50. He has an excellent chance of moving up.

    Splash commits

I don’t know how long being in the top 25 will last, but we do have a shot at it, maybe top 30. What is amazing are the number of top position 100 recruits we have committed. I think the top 4 3* all have a chance at being 4*s before December. This could be our best overall class in the modern...

    Conference Realignment Updates

Too bad Cal and Stanford decided to jump to the AAC. You’d think with all their brain power they could have helped figure something out for the PAC. 😁

    Thank you for the clarification.

    Field of "72" Projection

I would imagine he doesn’t want to add just anyone to fill out the roster. You know the rotten apple thing. Are the portal windows pretty much not a concern anymore, and players can transfer almost anytime?

    Leach Eligible for HOF

I agree with how limiting arbitrary numbers can be. Greatness is always measured by numbers and the Hall of Fame should also be for coaches that truly made a difference for the game. But changing a win percentage by half a point just doesn’t seem right so there must be a better way. Mike Leach...

Which road game are you going to?

Agreed. Finally a game I can drive to!

    Leach Eligible for HOF

I’m kind of a traditionalist and don’t like historic rules changes to allow one person in. If they want to create a special one time honor, like Originator of the Air Raid Offense, so be it. But don’t group him in with others who actually won enough to be inducted.

    Player NIL and TAXES!

    Okay, I like this version.

    Player NIL and TAXES!

Since not all players will get NIL, they may not be able to afford taxes on the value of their scholarship. For that reason, I think scholarships should remain tax free.

CFP 5+11 model gaining traction as leaders eye next steps

Finally, some basic sensibility about the CFP. Working out the number of conference games played and how teams will be ranked is going to be a bit contentious.

These 5 teams could win the Big Ten, but only with a little luck and a lot of help (4. Minnesota)

10 wins is probably the ceiling this year. But if we beat one of the O’s, I’ll be ticked if we drop one to Iowa, or any of the other beatables.

Which road game are you going to?

Cal and Oregon for us. It would be wild if we went 2-0!

All things Players Coming and Going.

Thank you for the NIL and visa reminder. I completely forgot about that. I share your concern about high school players as I can see the upper tier kids going to the CHL, and then hoping to sign with a college team when they graduate high school. Or maybe not if they’re drafted at 18, and their...

All things Players Coming and Going.

I think it’s August 1st that NCAA schools can start signing CHL players. So how do you know we aren’t getting any of them to come to Minnesota? I’m sure it will come down to NIL funding so start making your donations.
