Did Christie have a pretty good idea of what kind of a contract a mid second rounder would get. With the contract he ended up with there is no way he stayed another year. Like others have stated it's the second contract where the big money lies, start the clock running as soon as you can without...
My personal experience is that Mormons are great people, sure they try to push you to their church but if you state firmly that you are not interested they back off.
I think guys in his position did go back to school and will make more money doing it, Hawkins is the obvious one. No way he would have returned to Minnesota but he could have found a school willing to shell out pretty significant amounts of cash.
If in fact his relationship with that women was a factor I would say that Utah got a steal for the second round. I sure wouldn't worry about this one issue, there are many many worse. It's his life and he should live it the way he wants regardless of what others think.
After spending a year...
A non one and done program and getting one can have nothing but positive long term impact on the program. Many on this site don't give any credit to Johnson but at the very least he put Christie in a position to succeed, something that competent leaders do.
Big impacts to the second round of the NBA draft going forward. Hawkins model is going to be common place I would guess. Test the waters in the NBA draft, enter the portal, broker a NIL deal worth more than second round NBA draft money, wait until the last second to withdraw from the draft if it...
Tough to enforce giving money back though. Company I started with required a promissory note when you went through training stipulating you would pay the company x number of dollars if you left within three years. It never held up in court. Some type of collective bargaining agreement among the...
Five seasons in the last 20 had a better big ten record than last season. In historical context I would say yes it wasn't a bad season, and actually a pretty good season.
How many scorers were there heading into last season, Garcia, anyone else, Hawkins?, nope 5'11" from a way lower conference, Mitchell maybe, Payne if he develops, but where were the points comming from. Didn't turn out so bad.
New NCAA agreement has unlimited transfer options, I hope they restrict mid season transfers though and come to an agreement with the NBA not to poach players mid season. Either of those and college basketball will be ruined completely.
How is the NCAA power 5 settlement going to change everything. May be good may be bad but it is going to change things significantly. Sounds like % of the tv revenue is going to go directly to the athletes. Pay for play without any chance of mislabling or it's application.
My thing is it should...
When the opposition needed a basket they often targeted Hawkins. It will be nice not to have that problem but how many times did Hawkins make a clutch three or find an open man. I don't see how it isn't a loss.
That's kind of what Wisconsin did in the past. When that kid from Benilde played PG for them he was constantly taking last second shots. They would run the clock down to 10 seconds and if they didn't get a shot the PG would take it.
Based on last season's results then 9-11 or 10-10 seam's reasonable with 11th or 12th in conference. It's still a team sport and how they play together is important. Each individual doesn't always equal the whole.
If you are only going to have them for a year or two anyway it's just better to go the portal route. Getting a guy who needs a year or two to develop is a waist of time.
