    Niko’s roster construction

What you say about our program history is true...making it all the more insane that we hired a guy who had never been a head coach- anywhere- to do it last time. If we have the right coach and competitive money, that's two of the three major elements. He can get this done and fairly quickly.

Wait what? We do PR here with the Gopher program? Love it! Maybe the Twins will drop a few NIL $$$ his way?

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

It might be real. I think you are right that less than half of D1 players will get paid, but I think that on the top 50-60 teams, including us, the whole roster is going to get paid something and kids in the top 8 or 9 will be getting 6 figures. There are 365 D1 teams, the bottom half won't be...

    Niko’s roster construction

There’s not much room for patience anymore when everyone is a free agent every year. I trust Niko to do this fast if he is properly funded. That’s a big if around here

Yep, it was always nonsense that it wasn't a big factor.

I'm guessing Kyan called Niko and said Carolina is offering me this and Niko told him, that's a great offer, we can't match it and the visit got cancelled. I hope we close the deal with Enis tomorrow.

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I love that guys, high end guys, keep entering. There are only 50-60 basketball programs that have big money and we are now one of them. These high end transfers are going to run out of blue bloods to go to and some of them are going to land right here in Minnesota.

SJSU center Robert Vaihola commits to Gophers!!

He has improved each year. He started at 35% then into the 50's and now at 64%- perhaps he can be a 70% FT shooter. One thing I saw in his highlights were some pretty nifty passing to cutters.

Shooter: Gophers' NIL budget this season —lowest in the Big Ten — was in the $700,000 range, of which Dawson Garcia got $500,000.

The point of this discussion is this: If you fail to support a rookie coach that coach will fail miserably as happened here. That's foolishness both in the hire and the support. Now if you fail to support an accomplished coach, he will not accomplish what is possible. That's the warning. I hope...

    Niko’s roster construction

Our program has to become such a positive experience that it begins to become a tie breaker when it comes to money. If you have a player that can get 500k more elsewhere, you are going to lose the player- period.

College basketball’s most valuable teams (15. Minn $164M).

The only reason I can think we rank this high on this scale is because we are one of only two D1 programs in the state- so the Gophers certainly have something near a monopoly. It's the reason Rick Majerus said he would have loved to coach here.

There comes a point at which you kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Settling for some restraint can actually preserve the future for these young men. Pro sports ended up with salary caps for this same reason. It creates a competitive league. Without that the players eventually become worth...

Florida's starting lineup and their original recruiting rankings:

It's the hey - they used some foreign players, Geno also uses foreign players- maybe we should try it angle. Actually, I like the strategy. Gonzaga has gotten some pretty good ones over the years as have a lot of the smaller schools.

Maybe a competent coach makes the portal easier, just saying.

I think there, you want to find guys 10-13 or 15 (if that is the new number) younger developmental guys that could become something in the system. Ben brought in some guys who were old and then didn't use them.

I have mixed feelings about Coyle as I feel he did a good job with this hire. He is the guy out front so he has to take a lot of blame for what happened with NIL. I saw this coming when attending a kick off meeting for it. You could see they were going to screw it up from the beginning. I do...
