B.
I know. I know. 9-4 (6-3) is one of the best Gopher seasons since 1970 and I really enjoyed it as a whole. However, this team had the potential to be better even with key injuries. It took Sanford too long to figure out the offense after Mo went down...like, until the Iowa game.
Gopher...
I complain at times about vanilla offense, but I'd much rather watch the Gophs style of football (traditional Big Ten style?) than the basketball on grass seen in the Big12 and Pac12 with spread offenses and midgets on defense.
This. Some people complain about the lack of pass rush at times but it seems (to me) to be more about the Gophs keeping disciplined lane assignments. The DL under Rossi works to keep the LBs clean; a huge change from Smith.
Shit. I broke down and clicked the link to read the story. It's akin to clicking on the "see ignored content" link here and immediately regretting it. Ish.
In the end, to SON's comment above, it would be interesting to know the backstory of this year's bowl selection. I wouldn't be surprised if...
Agreed to the bolded. Fleck was very gracious and I'm glad he didn't channel fan thoughts on the field including my own. If nothing else, maybe he's laying groundwork for future Fiesta invites (I hope)?
I was wondering too. I'm guessing the team simply went into ball control mode with 2 receiver sets or less with the defense playing outstanding and the run game working. CAB is an excellent, and I mean excellent, blocker and team leader so he stays out there. I'm assuming Stephens is a good...
I really like how Rossi is channeling Wisconsin and some NFL teams on 3rd and long with stand-up DL, twists and blitzes coming from different angles, and hiding the rusher vs. coverage guys. I actually look forward to watching the defense now.
In the end, this game was not a matchup game. The Gophs were clearly the better team. A matchup game would have been vs. Arkansas in the Outback, or maybe even Kentucky in the Citrus or Pitt in the Peach.
I voted B. Probably because the game was boring and somewhat frustrating with the bad field and lack of execution on some key plays on offense. After reading some of the good comments here, I'd change my vote back to A if I could. The defense was incredible. WVU has a decent offense and the...
A fumble on the 5-yard line and a missed field goal aren't on the coaches. Execution matters sometimes. The game would have been on the road to blowout if not for those. I'm not going to complain about the play calling even if it went conservative in the 2nd half. A flea flicker is far from...
All the bad weather games I've seen the past few years in rain, sleet and snow and I don't remember as much slipping as this one. Especially the Gopher skill players. Weird that I don't recall the WVU players slipping much. Maybe they had better footwear.
Boring game but dominant performance by the Gophs. Huge TOP advantage for the Gophs. Great defense. Shoulda woulda coulda been a blowout on the scoreboard but it wasn't.
No doubt the case, but receivers typically have an advantage over defenders on a bad field. Put the best athletes out there (including Wright) and let them make plays.
Gophs have been lucky so far with bad uninspiring play on offense vs. a crappy WVU team. With just about any Big Ten team, the Gophs would be in serious trouble. Illinois all over again.
