Oddly enough, I feel the opposite. I love the college game because there's a lot more differentiation between teams and styles. I still enjoy the NFL, but the parity has made the product a lot more homogenous.

30 years ago Concordia - Moorhead had some kind of similar rule I think. I knew a couple who got married when they were in college there so they could live together. Meanwhile, across the street at MSUM, my GF, now my wife of 30 years, and I lived together in an apartment, clearly living in SIN!

Hastings is the county seat of Dakota County and they always played teams like Sibley and Park and other semi-big metro schools in that part of the metro.

I would have always considered the 7 county area as metro and STMA, Elk River and Buffalo would not fall under that definition, even if they play in conferences with other metro area schools. Back in the days when people had landlines and had to pay for long distance vs. local calls, I grew up...

This, and like everything before, this "clearinghouse" won't matter at all. It'll just go back to bag men and under the table money again. As long as there are uber-rich people willing to buy players that won't change.

I doubt it increased revenue at all. I would suspect the Gophers were an outlier in terms of TV interest among college hockey teams in general. What it was supposed to do from a BTN standpoint, is provide more content to the network, but it seems like they hardly spotlight hockey at all.

And they did. Back before they were forced into the B1G, the Gophers had their own TV deal with MSC, which became Fox Sports North etc. Go into any bar on a Friday or Saturday night and the Gopher hockey game would be on at least one TV. That had to be a hit to revenue for the program.

They could schedule that tiny non-accredited bible college in Bemidji that NDSU beat by 150 or so a few years ago.
