All Things 2025 College Football D2 and D3 Thread

I'd agree with that. I don't think many would choose a D3 as a sports fan unless they were playing, or involved with a team (like a student trainer) somehow. But there are totally kids that would go to Bama or tOSU or Notre Dame for those reasons.

Central is a JUCO, isn't it? I know someone who went there to play baseball and received an offer from a major D1 school after playing there for two years.

Northland College in Ashland, WI, about 20 miles from where I'm sitting right now, had their final graduation this year as well but isn't on the map.

I think there's a LOT more interest in things like sports at a private D3 than at a public D2. At least in this area.

Realistically, could Mankato go FCS but play in the Pioneer like St. Thomas, and move their other sports to the Summit?

I think Kill kind of had to hit the Juco ranks because of how many washouts and screwups Brew brought in.

#Gophers football will have a higher payroll than #MNTwins.

And you'll never see promotion and relegation in any major North American sport because of the vast differences between team values and facilities between major and minor league organizations.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Good question, the best example to look to for this would be Indiana. NDSU (and to a lesser extent SDSU/UND/USD) going D1, even if FCS, has probably also had an effect on this. When I was in college across the river, NDSU was still D2. They won a lot, and people up there still made a big deal...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The Packers are a unique beast as far as pro teams go. They're the closest thing to college football that the NFL (or any major sport) has. -Small town known specifically for this -Draws support from a wide area (statewide) -Generational fan base going back to the 1920s -(and this is important)...

You described it perfectly. While I have brought my kid to a few NFL games, I absolutely understand why people would not.

I think quite honestly, a big part of it too is people want to be outside, doing things, rather than watching a game for four hours, when the weather is nice in the late summer/fall, and there are more things to do outdoors here than in say, Iowa City or Lincoln.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The difference between the Vikings and every other professional and college team in town (and this is somewhat true for the NFL as a whole) is that they've made the games into an event or a party. It's always been that way to some extent, but it really ramped up in the Randy Moss era, when the...

Herein lies the problem, and why 6A and district scheduling came to be, if I recall. The biggest schools, (EP, Wayzata, Tonka, but mostly at the time EP) had a hard time scheduling teams. The example I always use was EP scheduling a home and home with a team from Winnipeg.
