All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

I’m not that upset about it. The Pacers’ fortitude was pretty amazing. The wolves seemed to put them away half a dozen times down the stretch and they didn’t quit.

All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

Anybody think the spending has gone down since the 22-23 season? It still corresponds to a $5M+ roster budget. And, yes, you have to have a good coach to go along with the talented roster.

All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

I know you'll base your entire argument on the word "everyone." However, for the non petulant posters, it appears my supposition is light. The cluster of NIL budgets in this year's NCAA tournament is between $6M and $16M. Duke (of course) is an outlier with a budget in the 20's and there are...

You have to have a great coach and money. Here we go again. Give me some data beyond saying "most teams..."

All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

Wisconsin spent between $2.5M and $4M on its roster. They will have to increase that number to remain competitive, especially if a new gopher coach can shut off the MN pipeline. I couldn't find a number for Purdue, though I found an article that said Purdue is one of the top NIL schools in the...

Golden State has a btb against Denver and Milw tonight and tomorrow. Hoping for a breakthrough.

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

I’m talking about money for the entire program. The coach’s compensation is just one piece. The annual outlay for the program has to be in the $12M-15M range if they are serious about the stated goal of top third of the B1G.

Not sure I agree. Every player on the team wants to get to the tournament. Since this is now an openly professional sport, all of the players are fully aware of its business aspects. Player and coach movement is a constant, which means it's no longer really a distraction.

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

If Coyle half asses the financial commitment it won’t really matter who they hire.

Mark Coyle: The Gophers' Michael Scott

I know nothing about the Indiana situation but one thing going in Coyle's favor is competing against Beth Goetz. Unless Iowa has a lot more money than we do, we can compete on a coaching hire. I've met Beth and she's a pleasant person but she's more Coyle than Coyle. My impression was that...

    Dollars

If Coyle is serious about building a top tier program it's going to take an investment of $12M-15M/year. At least $5M for the coaching staff. At least $5M for the roster. $2M for the first couple of years for buyouts (coming and going). $1M in non admin misc costs. Let's say Fleck is...

Lakers lost. I think they are our best shot. I don't see the Warriors playing any worse than the wolves down the stretch.

I have the wolves at 11-4 the rest of the way (assuming good health). They will lose one of the gimmes because they are the wolves and three of the tough games. At that pace that’s a lot of ground to make up. One of the 2-5 teams would have to really slump or the warriors would have to have a...

Marcus Q&A with Coyle: "I’ve started to have conversations with people today...I’ve had conversations with people about who is interested and not"

Completely agree. Coyle was, is and will be the problem for as long as he is here. He's a classic CYA administrator. He's been "doing things the right way" and "following a process" for years while he gets lapped by everybody else. His major coaching hires are sub mediocre (even the golden...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

I was in Assembly Hall years ago (not during a game) and the stands shoot up into the roof at what looks like almost a ninety degree angle. Really weird. I was in Welsh-Ryan for a game before the remodel. Really strange configuration and a total dump. I've also been to Carver-Hawkeye arena...

Maybe he'll announce Steve Kerr as the new hire.

All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

The wolves are healthy, they have depth, they've figured out rotations and they are actually moving the ball. They are playing at the same level as last year. Unfortunately, they may still end up in the play in. They are too far behind teams 2-5 and the Warriors are also playing great ball...

    New Coach Short List

Saunders is a nice guy with a nice name and no personality. He could barely complete a sentence. He has no recruiting or transfer connections. He was in way over his head as an NBA HC and would be equally over his head as the gophers HC.
