$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Not sure outside the metro, but in the metro I feel like hockey is a game for rich folks. Damn expensive equipment. Have to pay for ice time at a limited number of facilities, so guessing you pay top dollar for a decent time or you take a terrible time. If you don't start early, you have no...

All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Everything I'm reading out of Steelers camp seems positive. But I agree let's not waste our time talking about something that isn't on the table, my friend. The real question, if this doesn't fix itself sooner than later (or worse, it carries over into the preseason), is if they need to think...

    Gophers 2025-26 non-con schedule news

Does Niko have complete and total control over this schedule? I know in football the non-conf games are signed years in advance. Also wonder how much influence Coyle has "look Niko, I want you to hit the ground running with WINS this first year, OK?" I made that up out of thin air, but isn't...

Not a fair comparison I know, but how does that compare to Europe (non-Russia) and Russia? Just curious

I think that's the answer, then. Greenard has been on fire this camp and they're apparently very pleased with the offseason progress of Turner.

Unfortunately, I think people need to dial down their expectations at least a bit. All QB's had a very rough day yesterday. I caught the end of camp coverage on KFAN, and they're even doubting if Howell should be the backup at this point. They brought up Kirk .... Man I hope it doesn't go...

    Invalid fair catch signal

You're right of course, but I think you know what I mean. Everyone in the stadium and watching on TV saw DeJean running with the ball into the endzone and then the team celebrating, with the refs having not blown the play dead and then initially signalling a TD. Even PJ wasn't immediately...

    Invalid fair catch signal

For sure. I mainly said it to say that, even if it was inadvertent ... doesn't matter, the play should've been blown dead once he did it.

#Gophers football will have a higher payroll than #MNTwins.

As SG said, I agree with you in principle. So I'm just wondering, what is your response to European professional soccer leagues? As far as I know, they don't have caps and a few teams dominate the spending. But they remain very popular. Apples to oranges? I'd probably agree, just want to know...

Is this being used in the regular season this year, or just testing this in preseason? Spotting still the major hurdle

    Invalid fair catch signal

The whole controversy could have been avoided if the refs blew the play dead as soon as DeJean (inadvertently) made the invalid fair catch signal. There never should have been any "run back" to "take away".

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The only way you really ever level that playing field is something like the following: one way or another, every college player who wants to play for a Big Ten school this year (so this would be done early in the year, before spring ball starts) has to enter a "Big Ten draft". You go to the...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Agreed, and football is still more here, just like in most states. The "state of hockey" thing is just relative to hockey interest/participation in other states, on average or per capita.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Great post!! I think you've hit the three biggest issues and defined them well. Then it's a matter of what weight is assigned to each. For some posters here, they seem to be giving a large share if not all of the weight to #2. For me, that doesn't feel right in my gut (which I know is not...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The part that's impossible to tease out is if they would have bought Gopher football (season) tickets if the thing they actually spent their money on wasn't available. I don't think that's necessarily true. Especially not for concerts/arts buyers. Probably I don't believe it for other sports...

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

OK, good point. That said, I only buy this for people who buy season tickets. If you're choosing season tickets for the Wild because you love hockey, to the point where you're willing to sacrifice going to any football games, there are some people like that, sure. My feeling/guess is that the...
