    Non-Conference Scheduling

That's true, but they've only played four times in the last 100 years and one of those was the 2009 bowl game. I'm sure the Gophers have played several non-conference opponents more than thrice in the last 100 years. I love the idea of creating non-conference games based on the previous year's...

    Non-Conference Scheduling

The more I've thought about Minnesota playing Iowa State with any regularity (even "once or twice a decade") the more I see no upside from the Minnesota perspective. The Gophers have claim to three of the best trophy games in all of college football, including two that are bitter rivalries...

    Non-Conference Scheduling

I hadn't considered that the start of class would be a consideration in scheduling, but that makes sense to me. However, hasn't Minnesota historically started classes later than other schools? Yet somehow this past week is the most common week for P4 schools to play FCS schools.

    Non-Conference Scheduling

I think this is an entirely reasonable perspective. And as Slab pointed out, it may not be straightforward to fill the schedule with FBS teams. I still think there is no benefit to scheduling the Dakota schools.

    Non-Conference Scheduling

This was touched on a bit in the "worst opponent since" thread, but I think it's an interesting enough topic for it's own discussion. Given the context in which Gopher football exists: nine P4 conference games, no out of conference rivalries, a developmental program compared to others in the...

    Gruden unboxing video

Looks like the football program sent Coach Gruden a care package recently. He does a pretty good job of "remembering some guys" during the video, even gets most of the names right. :ROFLMAO:

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Hohensee was before my time, but it seems like he was the definition of a gunslinger. His time at Minnesota and in the NFL, USFL, and CFL netted 66 TD and 66 INT.

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

That's basically the summary. Wynn was a Gopher. Appeared in a couple of games as a freshman and left. That the school recognizes Streveler but not Wynn is interesting to me. YMMV.

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Thanks for this - I flat out missed Alfonse. Interesting that the Gophers don't recognize Spergon Wynn.

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Looked this up with the help of the Gopher Sports website: https://gophersports.com/sports/2018/5/21/sports-m-footbl-spec-rel-11-all-time-nfl-roster-html Here are (I believe ) all of the former Gopher QBs who played QB in an NFL regular season game: George Faust - 1939 Chicago Cardinals Vic...

All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Apologies if this was mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but I didn't see it if so.... If Brosmer gets into a regular season game, he would be the first former Gopher QB to do so since???

Northwestern’s motion to dismiss the wrongful termination lawsuit brought by former coach Pat Fitzgerald was denied today, Fitz seeking $130MM.

Precisely. We'll never "know" but no attorney would advise him to settle for the buyout amount (or less) given how Northwestern threw him under the bus.

Kansas has received an unprecedented $300 million gift from donor David Booth, believed to be among largest single gifts in history of college sports

This guy thinks he's T. Boone Pickens. According to Oklahoma State, Pickens donated $652M to OSU in his lifetime, split between academics and athletics. His largest one-time gift was $165M (in 2007). He also helped design (and personally financed) a life insurance program for mega-donors that...

What happened to the concept of a Non-Qualifier?

NCAA academic entry requirements have changed; specifically, the NCAA removed the standardized test requirement in 2020: https://honestgame.com/blog/ncaa-test-score-ruling/ This was abolished in favor of a 16 Core Course requirement and Core GPA. I would assume this change has made the academic...

STrib looking for a new Gopher basketball beat reporter

If only it were. He adds a lot to Wolves fandom and does so without being a pandering sycophant. Great writer, knows ball.

    Offense 79th, Defense 9th

Recognizing that a lot of experience (including a high draft pick) left the OL last year, I thought they were only mediocre as a unit. The struggles in the run game are well chronicled and I thought the group's success in the pass game had a lot more to do with Max's ability to get into the...

    Offense 79th, Defense 9th

If Max had another year of eligibility, there would be talk on this board about upsetting one of OSU or Oregon and sneaking into the CFP. I think the roster is in great shape and the only thing dampening enthusiasm is scar tissue from the last time we handed the reins to a young, inexperienced QB.

The Gophers need to get into the statue-erecting business too outside of Huntington Bank Stadium.

I think this is the most sensible approach to ensure statues maintain their rarity. I think Sandy Stephens is deserving, but there isn't an objective way to add Stephens without adding dozens more statues.
