Al Nolen/Blake Hoffarber Nate Mason/Dupree McBrayer Amir Coffey/ Gabe Kalscheur Marcus Carr/Gabe Kalscheur Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for Evans, but common, lol

Definitely the best since Hawkins and Christie, though

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

    It begins

    Kadyn Betts in the portal

I'm a little bummed about this one. In an era of instant gratification, Kadyn seemed both patient and realistic. After the mass departures last year, I think he was quoted saying he loves MN and the Gopher program. He had a CSU offer out of high school, and I hoped Niko and the staff could...

Three-star Minnesota signee Jacob Ross has requested his release from his National Letter of Intent and will reopen his recruitment

I generally agree with your sentiments. It's probably not a fit, but not because of tempo. Ben was running dang near the slowest offense in all of CBB (357). I love the JOJ reference. Niko's system has no room for low-IQ, low-motor players, even if they are highly athletic. I remember there...

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

Makes no sense. Buzz is in the SEC and has a massive NIL budget. Isn't Williard crying about the lack of NIL? I hope it happens to see what Payne does.

Brennan Rigsby Jr. is entering the transfer portal

A polarizing player if there ever was one. Could argue that he single-handedly won it for us at @Penn State and @ Nebraska. In other games, he was the worst player on the court, sometimes struggling even to dribble or draw iron on a jump shot. I don't think his undefined role did him any...

    The New Recruits

To me, the Ben Johnson era will always spring to mind plump guards who played with their backs to the basket more than our posts.

    Isaac Asuma is staying HOME!

lol or that he could make 750k elsewhere.

    Niko’s roster construction

Frank's offensive rebounding prowess literally won multiple games for us. I agree that he's probably replaceable, but it just seems short-sighted, given the current state of the roster. He's a proven X-factor.

    Niko’s roster construction

Ha, true. There's a role for a Frank Mitchell on every team. I have a hard time believing he was given the boot as we currently have, what, about 10ish roster spots open?
  14. T

    Niko’s roster construction

I agree on Big Frank. The only thing I can think of is that they were honest about his role being similar to last year, coming off the bench, expected to hustle and rebound, and maybe Frank thought he deserved to be a starter and get those kinds of minutes. He'll be a force in the A10.

How long will it take Niko Medved to get the Gophers to the NCAA Tourney?

I think the last regime really jaded some of our perceptions of what it takes to make the tournament. It's not that hard. 10-12-seed power conference teams are highly average. Rebuilding: The transfer portal is a blessing for us at the moment. Niko can get his guys in here ASAP. Maybe it's...

I haven't been this excited and optimistic about Gopher hoops since mid-Tubby era!!! LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was referencing the last "Williams Arena Crowd Peak." But yes, the 3 v. 5 debacle was the canary in the coal mine, lol.

    Kyan Evans

He's undersized, but 45% from 3pt and 85% from the FT line doesn't excite you? I admittedly haven't scouted his defensive prowess. Still, offensively, he's better than pretty much every SG guard Ben ever brought in (besides Christie) and would be a hell of a building block (especially paired...

Who will have a better career? Medved at Minnesota or McCollum at Iowa?

I am very curious to see an Iowa team with a total 180 from their current identity. I can't imagine it at the moment.

I haven't been this excited and optimistic about Gopher hoops since mid-Tubby era!!! LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me, the last peak in Men's basketball was playing Miami in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in the 2017 season. We were coming off a tournament appearance, returning a ton of production, and both teams were undefeated. We pre-gamed at Buffalo Wild Wings and drank beers downstairs near the...

I haven't been this excited and optimistic about Gopher hoops since mid-Tubby era!!! LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one area I'm really looking forward to. Losing games during a demanding OC slate doesn't hurt you in the eyes of the selection committee (see UNC this year), and the neverending string of home games against Bethune Cookman, IUPUI, and Central Michigan needs to stop.
