$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

Maybe they should call this a marketing fee? It enhances the national visibility of the university so it's a POTENTIAL benefit to all students. I've pursued and gotten MULTIPLE jobs out of this state including on Wall Street and feel like going to the U of M made a difference. People doing...

New NIL Enforcement Targets Collectives, deals must serve ‘valid business purpose’

NIL will be a real weakness for the Gophers anyway vs. their peers. The last episode of Gopher Gridiron Radio podcast was very interesting. They had an expert on that said even though Fleck is still bottom half of B1G in salary he's top half in regards to percentage based on how much money the...

ESPN: Greg Sankey says SEC, Big Ten still differ on best CFP model

I agree. I don't trust the committee. The 4-4-2-2-(1?) is based more on revenue the conferences bring in and at least that is fairly easily quantitative. How big is your TV contract because that's the biggest driver of revenue. If the ACC or Big 12 figure out a way to bring more money to the...

UCF coach Scott Frost on what he learned from Nebraska: "Don't take the wrong job."

I agree. He had a great run at UCF and thought it was more him than it was. That's easy to do for any of us. Sometimes you don't really know how great you are until you try it someplace else. Well, as it turns out, Nebraska didn't have as much potential as he thought it did and neither did...

Phil Steele releases preseason poll, ranking all college football teams, 1 to 136

I agree. It just shows you how lazy these writers are. They base their projections on there thirty years of history following football rather than having a little helpful recency bias. This do actually change over time...

P.J. Fleck gets a new contract extension—pending approval from Board of Regents—keeping him under contract until 2030.

I already solved this problem in another thread. Make Oregon's Phil Knight an honorary graduate so he'll start funding his "other" alma mater. You're welcome! ;)

P.J. Fleck gets a new contract extension—pending approval from Board of Regents—keeping him under contract until 2030.

Was it in the sports section or front pagish? If it was front page, they are just using the headline to grab readers that aren't well informed about the program like us. The average reader is going to get angry because he's just another overpaid CEO while the masses suffer. Worse yet, he's an...

Phil Steele releases preseason poll, ranking all college football teams, 1 to 136

How long does Mike Locksley hang on at Maryland. They have well above average recruiting base for our conference and yet are a consistently a below average team. Can't believe he's still there. Of course, he did get the #2 player nationally for 2026 to stay home. Dang!

    10-2 - tell me I’m wrong

Can we agree to make Phil an honorary Gopher alum in exchange for a little, um, financial support? ;)

5 star tackle commits to TTU for 5mil over 3 years

I don't think billionaires are going to stop wasting their money anymore than the rest of us. Their seemingly irrational decisions just have more zeros after them. How about Phil Knight propping up Oregon for years now? John Ruiz and Miami? This doesn't seem any different. "One man's junk...

Wow an end of an era on #Gophers campus as Annie’s Parlour closed after more than 50 years! Who has great memories going there while in Dinkytown?

I agree except I think buying into a franchise might be more expensive. Great to get all that institutional knowledge and then go off on your own later if you make it and want to do more of your own thing. That's what I did in a different field that required more education, but lower capital...

U of M Total Operating Revenue by Sport for 2024 (football is 75%, other 18 sports are 25%)

I stole this information and link from GopherGrit from the "Scoggins: Mark Coyle" thread. I just thought it was great information many of you would be interested in seeing too. I did not view the whole report and just jumped to the revenue summary page on 29. If we assume "Not Allocated by...

    Pierce Petersohn to announce tomorrow!!!

I didn't think he was that great a prospect. Too tall and too fast. Good riddance!

    Pierce Petersohn to announce tomorrow!!!

I can't believe Voss scared him away, but the timing seems to make it likely. There are 22+ positions on a football field and guys with that kind of height and athleticism can play a lot of them. Not sure why we couldn't get creative getting two of them on the field as tight ends or hybrids...

You aren't going to recognize Bielema this year.

I'll admit, a part of me is going to miss the overweight Bret jokes. Some were pretty funny and I didn't feel too bad about it because I figured he was laughing at us peons all the way to the bank. On the other hand, very happy to see he is losing the weight.

    ROMAN VOSS TO MINNESOTA!

Notice Ohio State didn't even offer because they knew they had no chance! We taught them on Perich. Stay out of our backyard!

Gophers 2026 class remains in the top 20 nationally, will it stay there?

Things have changed since we now basically have a P-2. I'd expect our rankings to increase because all the other conferences have trouble competing with all our money. Below are the B1G & SEC standings from last year as a starting point. We will likely never jump over Oregon, Penn State, OSU...

Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

I'm sorry if you enjoy these sports and they are likely going away. It sucks when you have a history with something and you lose it. I do empathize with you on that. All I can say is we definitely don't have a shortage of entertainment options in this down. Am I right? I am, however, on the...

Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

Thanks FinnGopher! Looks like Michigan is going to have to make some BUSINESS decisions! I'm really upset the $20.5 million isn't enough. The horror!

Big Ten trojan horse lures SEC toward lame College Football Playoff format

I actually agree with you. Fairness and parity is not what we had for the last 20 years. The SEC dominated because recruiting footprint was the most important. Now money and eyeballs are the most important and we're pretty equal to the SEC in that regard.
