Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

Ben's biggest saving grace is that Dawson Garcia stayed. He is a top end Big Ten player that allowed a mostly middling roster to win 7 Big Ten games.

Scoggins: Word is Mark Coyle wants to build Gophers men’s basketball. What does it mean for Ben Johnson?

Hawkins and Payne are both significantly better and more valuable players than Patterson and Mitchell (God bless them.) Hawkins set the Minnesota single season assist record and is currently leading the Big 12 in assists. He is currently the quarterback for a team ranked in the Top Ten. Payne...

    Fire Ben Johnson

Thought the same thing. Ryan even has NBA head coaching experience, which the Utah guy does not. Plus, Ryan is a legacy Gopher, multi-generational with an overwhelmingly popular last name. But, every time someone brings up Saunders' name in these threads, he gets crushed as a candidate. He...

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Two weeks ago? Most had Nebraska in the NCAA field as recently as tip off against the Gophers five days ago. Heck, some still had them in the NCAA field heading into their Ohio State game just two days ago.

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

Yeah we are in the tourney for sure. Question is will we be the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, or 15th seed. USC, NW, IA, NEB, RUT also fighting for same real estate.

Weakling Wednesday Final Weekend: Iowa @ Nebraska for the Final "Chair and a Chance"

I believe with Nebraska's loss last night and knowing the Cornhuskers face Iowa head-to-head this weekend, the Gophers have clinched a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. The Iowa-Nebraska loser will have to fight it out with USC, Rutgers and Northwestern for the final elimination spot.

Missouri also has Rams/Avalance/Nuggets/Arnenal owner Stan Kroenke, who married into the Walmart fortune. He went to Missouri and his son played basketball at Missouri. So, Missouri has two dudes (Stan Kroenke, Bill Laurie) who married daughters of Bud Walton.

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

Notice many of the coaches at highly successful private schools and what they 'supposedly' make. Those schools don't have to "report" anything and are not subject to open record requests to release contract details. Many of these private schools create "booster clubs" that supplement the...

STrib: An uncertain future, yet hope for Gophers coach Ben Johnson, who foresees a program with more resources

The 22% is the average of all Power 5 schools revenue. All P5 schools can pay up to $20.5 million regardless of what conference they are in. That should leave more money to spend on other things for Big Ten and SEC schools, but teams from the Big 12 and ACC can pay $20.5m to their athletes...

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

Creighton draws 17k+ fans for every game, amongst the national leaders in attendance every year. They have no football to take from their NIL pot of money. This is a private school that doesn't have to worry about political agendas, state lawmakers meddling, etc. They have a LOTS of money...

Neal: Moving forward with Ben Johnson is the only option for Gophers men’s basketball

Not really. He started 13 games last year for Oregon. Most came in December before he was replaced in the starting lineup. His minutes dipped fairly dramatically once he was removed as a starter. He did not start in any of the final 18 games of the season. He had one double digit scoring...

You want a "magic number" for Gophers to hear name called on Selection Sunday? Go with 22

It could be the Fox Sports-produced postseason tournament (inaugural CBC Tourney in Vegas) the Gophers go to instead of the NIT. The Big Ten, Big East, and Big 12 are required to send their top two non-NCAA teams to that 16-team tourney instead of the NIT. Then, there are 10 more at-large...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

The cost is more expensive to gut and remodel than to tear down and build an entirely new arena. We don't need the 100-year old roof and walls. Build a new one. For those citing Hinkle Field House remodel as the way to do it. I completely disagree. Been in that building 4 or 5 times for...

RB Ky Thomas transferred from MN to Kansas to Kent State to Washburn.

He'll have plenty of time to work (like for the rest of his life). If he loves football, play it while he can.

RB Ky Thomas transferred from MN to Kansas to Kent State to Washburn.

I don't think either of those things are true. He had shoulder surgery, which kept him out his true freshman season. Then, as a redshirt freshman (after Mo and Potts got hurt), Thomas led the team in carries (166), yards (824), and touchdowns (6). He was the team's #1 back for basically the...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

A combination of Ole Miss, Baylor, Missouri, and DePaul would be great. They are all "newer" arenas that have some old school charm, plus the modern amenities to draw upon.

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Especially since the legislature (the state) actually owns the University. The pulltabs paid off the Vikings stadium two decades early. The U should absolutely tap into some of the remaining years of the pulltabs and build a new arena. Does anyone at the U have the guts to go demand it from...
