$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The Packers are a unique beast as far as pro teams go. They're the closest thing to college football that the NFL (or any major sport) has. -Small town known specifically for this -Draws support from a wide area (statewide) -Generational fan base going back to the 1920s -(and this is important)...

You described it perfectly. While I have brought my kid to a few NFL games, I absolutely understand why people would not.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

I think quite honestly, a big part of it too is people want to be outside, doing things, rather than watching a game for four hours, when the weather is nice in the late summer/fall, and there are more things to do outdoors here than in say, Iowa City or Lincoln.

$200: the final straw for this Gopher alum & lifelong fan

The difference between the Vikings and every other professional and college team in town (and this is somewhat true for the NFL as a whole) is that they've made the games into an event or a party. It's always been that way to some extent, but it really ramped up in the Randy Moss era, when the...

Herein lies the problem, and why 6A and district scheduling came to be, if I recall. The biggest schools, (EP, Wayzata, Tonka, but mostly at the time EP) had a hard time scheduling teams. The example I always use was EP scheduling a home and home with a team from Winnipeg.

Students paying students: How the U is trying to stay competitive in athletics

Oddly enough, I feel the opposite. I love the college game because there's a lot more differentiation between teams and styles. I still enjoy the NFL, but the parity has made the product a lot more homogenous.

    BYU QB Reportedly Transferring

30 years ago Concordia - Moorhead had some kind of similar rule I think. I knew a couple who got married when they were in college there so they could live together. Meanwhile, across the street at MSUM, my GF, now my wife of 30 years, and I lived together in an apartment, clearly living in SIN!

Hastings is the county seat of Dakota County and they always played teams like Sibley and Park and other semi-big metro schools in that part of the metro.

I would have always considered the 7 county area as metro and STMA, Elk River and Buffalo would not fall under that definition, even if they play in conferences with other metro area schools. Back in the days when people had landlines and had to pay for long distance vs. local calls, I grew up...
