    Different Vibe

I think it took awhile for Fleck to really build up the in-state connections, but he appears a bridge has been crossed and we'll be in the hunt for the best in-state players going forward. I know that a lot of the high school coaching contingent really loved (and I mean LOVED) Jerry Kill and...

Minnesota HS All Quarter Century Team per SI

Thanks. Did not know that. It's often difficult to figure out how decisions are made regarding some players. Obviously in Watt's case, DL was where he should have been. Of course, he got a lot bigger between high school and when he got to Wisconsin.

Minnesota HS All Quarter Century Team per SI

So true. Sometimes it worked (Barber, Spaeth) and sometimes it didn't (Alex Daniels). It's always important to remember that JJ Watt was being recruited as a TE when he committed to the Gophers (de-committed after Mason was fired). Watt should probably send Bruininks and Maturi a thank-you note.

Minnesota HS All Quarter Century Team per SI

No Brendan Kelly either. He wouldn't be on the first team, but he seemed to warrant honorable mention.

All Things Roman Voss Thread (Gophers Commit!)

I don't know but wouldn't be surprised. Lloyd Voss was born in Adrian, MN, which is in Rock County, and there's just one county (Nobles) between Rock and Jackon counties. That said, Voss is not that uncommon a name in Scandinavian communities, several of which are dotted all over Southwestern...

Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

So reading the CBS story, there doesn't appear to be any clearly delineated limitations on NIL so what does this solve other than there will be money for pretty much every player?

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

I grew up outstate, but lived in and around Minneapolis for most of my adult life. It appears I am a little older than you and I imbibed (in more ways than one) the night life in Minneapolis in the late-1970s through the 1980s. 1980s were pretty much a golden era for young professionals in...

Great Reusse column on his lifelong fandom of our Gophers!

I see very little ripping from the beat writers covering the teams or the team-affiliated broadcasters. Columnists are much milder than they were when Barreiro was ladling out his thoughts in print. It's different on the internet and the unaffiliated radio shows where basically discussion...

Great Reusse column on his lifelong fandom of our Gophers!

Thanks for posting the article. People rag on Reusse, but even as he nears 80 he can still put pen-to-paper (or should that be fingers-to-keyboard) with the best of them. As he wrote in the article, he cut his teeth in an era when clubhouse reporters (especially columnists) could rip the team...

    Leach Eligible for HOF

Leach gets a ton of credit for the work done by earlier coaches like Mouse Davis who developed the run-and-shoot at Portland State in the mid-1970s that featured two QBs who played in the pros: June Jones and Neil Lomax. Hal Mumme was doing pretty much the same thing at Kentucky with Tim Couch...

Jerry Kill Praises New Golden Gophers Running Back

This never gets old. Ol' Jer sees in Cardenas a player that will leave it all on the field. Jiminy Christmas, this kid is a worker.

    Trump wants to change/limit NIL.

I've always written that the NCAA could have gotten ahead of this to a great extent when the initial lawsuits and legal wrangling commenced, but I was probably wrong in thinking that would have put the issue to bed. Like you, I think big changes will be coming for the revenue sports...

Sporting News: Ex-Gophers QB Max Brosmer has ‘legitimate shot’ to make Vikings 53-man roster

And don't forget that the back-up QB is the fans' answer to the team's woes. Seriously, Brosmer showed he was able to make the jump up from FCS to FBS by performing well. He's now going to be with a coach that really handles and develops QBs. Brosmer won't become Aaron Rodgers on the field...

    Trump wants to change/limit NIL.

I've always had a great amount of respect for Saban as a coach, but his caterwauling about NIL and the transfer portal has taken him down a notch for me. I'm way old. I don't really like NIL or the transfer portal, but they are here and getting that horse back in the barn will be extremely...

    Drafted & UDFA Signings

I didn't think the pre-draft musings were that far out of line on the board this year. There's always someone who thinks the whole team is going to get drafted. I'd have to look back on the posts, but most seemed to think 3 or 4 Gophers would get drafted. The only surprises to me were Joyner...

The Minnesota Vikings have signed #Gophers Max Brosmer!

Good situation for Brosmer. Game will get a little faster, but the game got faster for him last season after he stepped up from a lower level and he did quite well. Smart guy who obviously loves the game and those guys can often hang around if the physical end of the equation is there.

    Walley picked on 3rd Round

I pretty much saw the same player as Ballard. We'll find out whether we are both crazy or not.

    Joyner to Las Vegas Raiders

I think the tools are there and he seemed to play hard every play, but maybe there are some technique issues that kept him from being more effective and putting a crimp in his production numbers. Pros are obviously a different level and everyone there has top-drawer tools. I think he was...
