Coyle view from a GH favorite

It's not always the U being the boogey-man. People can direct their NIL $ where they like. If you were a person that had enough money to donate to the Gophers NIL, would you send it to the football team, hockey team, volleyball team, etc. where there are legit, experienced coaches that have...

All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

I have to believe Medved would jump at this job in a heartbeat. You can afford to make him your 5th/6th option in your back pocket. No need to go with him right out of the gate. Swing for the fences first. He’s not my first/second/third pick , but we could do a lot worse. Thorson was part of...

ESPN's Jeff Borzello: "As of time of publish, it seems Ben Johnson is likely to get another year at Minnesota."

The point you’re missing is that it is in fact dependent on the coach. There are plenty of people who aren’t going to contribute NIL $ to a sinking ship with a coach over his skis that has the personality of a wet paper bag. In the new world of NIL, coaches need to add “salesman” to their list...

ESPN's Jeff Borzello: "As of time of publish, it seems Ben Johnson is likely to get another year at Minnesota."

The problem is the other B1G teams get revenue sharing as well. So yes, they're spending money, but by comparison to conference foes they're still coming to a gun fight with a knife.

This. I'm placing a higher priority on "good teammate veteran guy" at this point to coach up JJM than the guy that can help them win the most games. You pushed all your chips in on JJM, so you should be doing all you can to help him succeed.

ESPN's Jeff Borzello: "As of time of publish, it seems Ben Johnson is likely to get another year at Minnesota."

Agreed, you can't make any sort of predictions based on the roster at this point. However, you basically have to if you're Coyle, because if the team ends up winning 3-6 conference games, what exactly was the point of leaving CBJ in place? So projecting based on limited information is what ADs...

ESPN's Jeff Borzello: "As of time of publish, it seems Ben Johnson is likely to get another year at Minnesota."

Let's ignore if you think he "deserves" another year for whatever reason you choose, and just look at this objectively. What is the absolute best-case scenario for next year that is actually plausible? Looking at the roster, Betts, Frank Mitchell, Grayson Grove and Asuma will be the only...

Looks like their approach is sign guys that had significant injury problems in 2024 and hope they rebound (Hargrave, Allen, Fries).

    Fire Ben Johnson

I guarantee you these columns are already written, just waiting to be released. The only question is how many will straight-out call race a factor, and how many will merely poorly veil it.

All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Coach Fired/Hired/Retired Thread

Looking at Jim Engles' resume, he has been shockingly bad. Through his first four years, his conference win % was 0.285 (CBJ is sitting at 0.278 for reference). Then COVID happened and the 2020/21 season was cancelled. After that, they chose to give him 4 MORE years. And shockingly, after doing...

Keats’ conference win % is 60% better than CBJ’s. His resume would make CBJ blush. Yet, we’re still here…

    Dammit, Martes Lewis is transferring!

Looks like it's about 60ish miles from his hometown, so I suppose that makes sense.

All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

DK Metcalf has a cap hit of $32MM in 2025, and then is a UFA in 2026. I suppose the logic is you trade for him, then restructure his contract with an extension. But how much money is he going to expect in a new deal? He's a good player, but my impression of him is a bit of a malcontent (which I...

Dawson Garcia - Has he become one of the best in the Country?

I'm impressed with how Garcia has progressed since he's been on the Gophers. While somewhat quiet, he seems like a good leader. I'm not an NBA expert, but I think his size/shooting seems like a good fit. Not sure if he'll get drafted, but I think if he gets a shot, he'll end up sticking in the NBA.
