Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

I have the sports equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome: I’m enchanted by OKC—their defensive pressure; their ball movement & remarkable talent. Their entire organization deserves great credit for their 80 wins and counting this season.

All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Meanwhile it’s the endless wait for Twins to return from injuries—it’s a long ten days for Wallner playing rehab ball with the Saints. I appreciate Buxton is with the team in Tampa but it’s been almost two weeks—when do we become concerned he has an even more serious concussion issue? Same...

Ant & Chet = NBA championships. Is there any chance the latter yearns to play for his hometown team?

All Things 2025 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Wow—calling a breaking ball on two strikes against their hottest hitter. Go with your best stuff with the game on the line. Too bad: a sweep there for the taking and grabbing another win with Buxton out of the lineup. Need production from Lewis and Wallner & Buxton back in the lineup.

Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

OKC is outstanding. Team of interchangeable parts & nails defensively along with their MVP & Super Freak post player. Doesn’t hurt to get some soft foul calls resulting in free throws. They’ve been closer to mortal on the road with a 3-2 record in the playoffs. Attack the rim at the Target...

    Twins/Vikings/Wild/Wolves Championship appearance drought tracker

The excitement of those glorious “North Stars springs” enhanced by Gophers Glen Sonmor; Mike Polich; Tom Younghans; Steve Christoff; and Neal Broten (1981). Henry Luce called the 20th century the “American Century”. The 1970s was the “Gopher Hockey Decade”: three NCAA titles; the foundation of...

Williams Arena named 33rd best atmosphere in CBB.

We sit in the third row behind the basket in section 101. It’s the best sports show in town from this mosh pit/snake den perspective.

    Like Roster Medved Has Built

Winning Big Ten home games (at least 7) which a solid roster and good coaching can produce. It’s the foundation of every season and a/the key for Nico showing progress in Year One. The December game will be an early, important marker.

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Rautins had an incredible first half at MSU against their Magic/Kelser eventual NCAA championship team. We led something like 42-29 at half time and the announcers were raving about him. That was his 15 (20) minutes of fame for Minnesota.

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Aaron Robinson—he looked like the longest of longest long shots to play the point in the Big Ten. Dan Monson & staff’s hard work with him and his determination made him a solid player. Same thing to a lesser extent for Townsend Orr—he was bigger and initially more talented.

    2024-25 Wild Season

It’s a fascinating if frustrating series. It’s the hockey version of a contrast in football teams: Vegas is ball control and the Wolves are quick strike. It’s also a reprise of Wolves-Lakers: The Wild rides Kaprisov & Boldy while the Knights have the deeper team.

Gophers land a big man....... 6' 10" Nehemiah Turner

Looking at the lineup at this point no one stands out as the center of gravity on offense. It’s always a delicate balance: generally offensive efficiency requires a serious scorer leading the way without the ball and ball movement dying in his hands.

Who would like the Gophers to have an intense rivalry with Notre Dame?

My grandfather loved to travel with his brothers-in-law by train to away Gopher football games in the 1930s and 1940s. The last time Minnesota played at Notre Dame they took one of the game-special trips which stopped in Chicago for a couple hours to give passengers time for a restaurant meal...
