RandBall: Where’s the money? Gophers budget shortfall raises questions

Rowing won’t get cut. That’s how they make scholarships equitable in numbers with football. I believe there are no limits on rowing scholarships.

Still No Statement from Ben Johnson

I’m not sure what the pissing match is about between two of the posters here. But I agree that Ben Johnson doesn’t owe anyone a public response to his firing.

RandBall: Where’s the money? Gophers budget shortfall raises questions

And Fleck gets a $1 million raise while the department runs a deficit. Seems like Fleck could get by on the millions they are currently paying him, in light of the financial challenges going forward. I guess I don’t understand the wealthy.

David Pollack lists Darius Taylor as Minnesota's player to watch in 2025

Who is David Pollock and why do we care what he thinks?

Sacramento State is hiring Tim Brewster as senior associate head coach.

I heard through some coaches from a well respected out state program that Brewster didn’t show much love for non metro guys with D1 potential, one of whom was on their team. They were very disappointed in Brewster’s recruiting efforts.

Seems like every year they start with an injury concern. Tyler Cochran missed all last year, Garcia missed time the year before. Parker Fox…….

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

Yes, Old Vancouver is very interesting!

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

Love old Vancouver, but the city has dozens of unimpressive identical high rises in the downtown area that reminds me of what they did in Soviet Russia back in the day. Pretty ugly.

Good points. I think a lot of coaches will have to deal with resentment over who gets paid more than others. With Garcia it made sense that he was the highest paid because of his experience and stature on the team.

And we have a new player on our team.... Chance Stephens

As are you denying the need for inside presence, which they obviously can use. But I respect where you are coming from, just disagree.

RandBall: U’s Niko Medved says transfer portal recruiting ‘a lot like NBA free agency’

6’8” centers worked in the 60’s and 70’s, I.e. Wes Unseld. But today, unless they are strong, mobile and shoot well, they will get worked over by Big Ten bigs. Crocker Johnson is really a four who can match up with other fours. Hopefully they don’t have to play him at the five.

RandBall: U’s Niko Medved says transfer portal recruiting ‘a lot like NBA free agency’

They have 6’8” and 6’10” transfer bigs. Grove is a forward and who knows if he can contribute this year. That’s not enough in the middle in the Big Ten, where 7 footers roam the paint. But I agree you never have too many shooters.

I hope the next new player is 6’10” or taller. They need more bigs.

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Ralph Sampson. He was always very passive, and who I thought would develop to be a very good player. Instead he was mediocre.

They need another big man, but I’ll take another shooter too.
