Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

While I know it is not the same thing, there was more than zero agreement by players. The players were the class of the settlement and they agreed to the terms of it, as far as the $20.5M starting point went. If they thought that was too low, why settle? Like I said, that's not a collective...

Big Ten trojan horse lures SEC toward lame College Football Playoff format

Maybe not popular opinion but I would give Iowa, Washington, Oregon, and USC (Notre Dame), and then Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida an exemption since they all have in-state rivalries (or USC-Notre Dame) as a P4 yearly game already. That's 4 from each conf, so the other 12 could...

Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

What do you mean by artificially? Many very successful sports leagues have a cap on total player salary. I have read that Congress is considering federal legislation that will limit the NCAA from further antitrust lawsuits.

    Settlement Reached

Post this question in the thread in the football forum: I'd be very curious to hear a statement from Dinkytown Athletes, as to how they are going to structure their NIL deals to Gopher athletes to ensure they pass muster with the new NIL Go clearinghouse.

Amateur College Football Officially Dead: Judge OK's $2.8B settlement, paving way for colleges to pay athletes

And I believe the percentages have been known well in advance, something like: football 70%, MBB 10%, WBB 10%, Mens Hockey 5%, Womens Volleyball 5%. That's of the total allowable $20.5M, which is the starting "cap" for the 2025-26 season. That "cap" will grow each year from there.

St Thomas Basketball Censorship on the Golden Gopher Basketball Forum Poll

Timberwolves board? Costs GH nothing to make a new board. Doesn't matter if few post in it. Vikings fans on GH deserve their own board! Twins fans too

    Conference Realignment Updates

For those interested in the (robust) legal saga surrounding this move: https://nevadasportsnet.com/news/reporters/why-sunday-could-be-a-huge-day-for-the-future-of-the-pac-12-and-mountain-west Pac 12 still needs to add one more full football-playing member (can't be a football affiliate to pair...

CFP 5+11 model gaining traction as leaders eye next steps

They are one school short, as you need 8 full members who play football and they are currently scheduled to be at 8 by 2026-27 but with one of those being Gonzaga. There aren't any great options that seem to be on the table. There is quite the on-going (legal) saga surrounding all this. For...

CFP 5+11 model gaining traction as leaders eye next steps

Aren't there still 10 FBS conferences? The PAC-12 is going to survive by taking Mountain West teams, which itself is also still going to survive. The CUSA also has managed to survive.

CFP 5+11 model gaining traction as leaders eye next steps

If they do go 5+11, the SEC could get a huge number of teams into the playoff every year by not going to a 9th conference game and using the extra game to schedule cupcakes. (4 teams seem locked into yearly in-state rivalry games with ACC teams, while some newer SEC teams seem to have escaped...

Great Reusse column on his lifelong fandom of our Gophers!

To be honest, I think the powers that be are going to push for having playoff games other than the championship all played at home venues, at some point in the future. For now, the major bowl games are clinging to relevance as sites for the quarter and semi-finals. Would love the Rose and one...

Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

At the end of the day, all we can do is grant or withhold our viewership. That's the only thing that actually registers, that we actually have control of. I'm choosing to change the channel.

Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

Also curious what people think on this: should there be some kind of rule change, with whatever stipulations you want (eg. only late in the game, only if a team is down by 3 or less, etc.) such that a foul outside the 3pt line automatically gives 3 free throw shots? Blasphemy?

Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

We lost by 2. Randle was 1-7 FG (14.3%) Ant was 5-13 FG (38.5%) Sure, I can buy that Ant was heavily guarded/limited by their defense. But I saw plenty of solid shot attempts he took that just would not go in. Super stars make the ball go in the hoop.

Western Conference Finals Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder

This was fun to watch, no matter what. Fighting for their lives, scrapping. This game I agree with Truthseeker's early post about no shame in losing to this team. I disagreed with that for the first two games. But not this game.
