10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

He has to be in the mix especially if they make the dance and if they were to win a game or two? He'd be HOT.

Souhan: Coyle would be aggressive in replacing Pitino

Don't worry he's got Eddie Conroy or Lindsted ready to take over..

10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or discussed before but does anyone think that demons from Clem are still haunting us? Will they ever bring him back to the arena? Will they ever retire Bobby's number? Our program has been going nowhere for the past 25 years. It's actually really...

10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

Niko brings an element that Gates does not. Niko brings Dave Thorson. Niko and Dave will get Minnesota kids. My only reservation on Niko is that I'm not sure if he is the right personality to sell the program but I could be completely wrong on that.

10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

He inherited a very good program and he obviously can coach (national coach of the year last year). However he has never built a program and I don't agree that he has name recognition. Kids don't care that his dad coached here 34 years ago. Also, any coach from the MWC would be interested...

Why is Dutcher a good choice in your mind?

10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

Spot on. Muss is the type of coach that these kids want to play for. Someone who has coaching track record to the NBA, and Muss has proven that he can flat out coach. Doesn't Freddie down in Lincoln have some big 5 star coming next year?

10 most interesting options to replace Richard Pitino

No doubt that Dutch would be a better coach than what we had. However, I'm not high on him because we don't need a coach that has an old connection to the U. Dutch has also never built a program. I think we need someone that has done that before.

    Marcus Carr Appreciation Thread

I'm not disagreeing with you on Oturu by any stretch. However, I 100% believe that Oturu would have been a Gopher no matter who the coach was so I am not giving RP all of the credit on that one.

    Marcus Carr Appreciation Thread

Marcus might be the best recruit that RP brought in. I hope to see him next year and he will be making money playing ball one day..

    Next Gopher Head Coach

For sure. Wasn't it also mentioned that Muss reached out to Coyle last year but he wasn't ready to dump Richard? This is where Coyle is going to be putting his neck out on the line as he is going to need to come up with cash to bring him here! Game on!

    Next Gopher Head Coach

Serious question. Why would Muss leaving his current situation to come here? Top 20 team, rabid fanbase, more money coming etc. I would love him here but I just don't see it happening.

    Next Gopher Head Coach

Whomever the next coach is it will be wise to see someone on the bench with local connections such as Dave Thorson, Ben Johnson, Jared Nuness, Damien Johnson

Doogie: Coyle knows this can't go on. They (Coyle and Pitino) met on Friday.

Right - there had to be something else going on here.

Fire Richard Pitino? Gophers athletics’ current finances could be biggest hurdle

Spot on here. Coyle seems to be more concerned with his image versus anything else. We are in the same spot if not worse than we were last year. He should have done it last year and the vid was an easy excuse for him so he could stay out of the limelight.

Doogie: Coyle knows this can't go on. They (Coyle and Pitino) met on Friday.

I agree that he has proven to be ambitious with his previous hires. What is really head scratching to me with Coyle is that he allowed this situation to get to where it is. I'm hoping he has a plan, but who knows we never hear anything from him.

What is the benefit to allowing Pitino to finish the season?

No offense but I don't understand your logic at all. Richard Pitino has been one of the worst if not the worst coaches in the history of our program but yet you don't think he deserves to be fired?

What is the benefit to allowing Pitino to finish the season?

I am not twisting your post. I am trying to understand your rationale. So what you are saying is that we should not fire him now because it would be disrespectful?

What is the benefit to allowing Pitino to finish the season?

I'm sorry but this is major college sports where big time money is being paid and this program is going nowhere. Being sympathetic to RPs feelings seems strange to me.

What is the benefit to allowing Pitino to finish the season?

To me firing him now would take some balls from the groundhog. I'm not sure that he would like the optics of firing him before the end of season because it might admit fault for the extension and perhaps not doing it last year.
