STrib: With all-white leadership, Gophers athletic department under fresh scrutiny to improve diversity; Coyle has hired 11 white head coaches

If Mark Coyle has not been in contact with Gates people then it would be a shame. There is no reason why he shouldn't be considered. We should be targeting the best coach to lead our program. I still believe that Gates ends up at either PSU or BC. Also, If his team wins a game or two in...

PJ Fleck slated to be the 10th highest paid coach in the Big Ten

Great post totally agree with this! This also trickles down to the assistant coaches. They grind hard as well! One of our assistant coaches lives in my building (super nice guy) and the only time I see him is either @ 5 am in the morning or 11 pm at night. They work their tails off for a...

Cleveland State playing at 5:30 CT on ESPNU

My prediction is he ends up at PSU or BC.

    Next Gopher Head Coach

That is just a hard one to believe. We are just dying for the right coach/right admins!

    Next Gopher Head Coach

For me a home run would be to just get us on track to finish above .500 in B1G play every year. That would be leaps and bounds better than where we have been in recent memory. I honestly think any of the tiers of coaches that you listed can get us there. Of course we all want more than that...

Chip on Gophers: Pitino never connected with MN HS and AAU coaches; first two calls should be Beilein and Musselman; can't let Marquette get Garcia

It sure seems not! I wish the beat writers would have more insight. Does Fuller really provide anything?

Craig Smith is my vote, here’s why

I think he actually drew up a play too.

Chip on Gophers: Pitino never connected with MN HS and AAU coaches; first two calls should be Beilein and Musselman; can't let Marquette get Garcia

Being arrogant/cocky is fine if you can back it up with performance. Reusse summed it up best in an article he wrote back in 2014 saying something along the lines of, "He walks on the sidelines pretending to know what a B1G coach looks like, however you don't see much coaching coming out of him"

STrib: Richard Pitino and the Gophers. What went wrong? The short answer: Missteps in recruiting and a lack of player development.

Interesting take on this that I have not thought about. Dutch's age does not bother me one bit and I'm sure that he'd assemble a staff that would blow our current out of the water. He didn't win national coach of the year on a whim last year.

I officiate HS basketball. I have never seen RP in a gym and I have never heard anyone else seeing him or other members of his staff ever. It might be a coincidence but I'm not sure at this point. A guy that I officiate with works with Dawson Garcia's mom. He told me that WOJO came to see...

    Dennis Gates... He's my pick.

He did give him a few extensions which in my mind means he at least rehired him. I personally won't go so fast and say that I trust the groundhog with this hire...

    Next Gopher Head Coach

I like all of the coaches that have been mentioned and I would rally behind any of them. Interest in Gopher basketball probably has never been lower in our state. Ideally we need a shot in the arm type hire that will get people excited. Fingers crossed that Coyle can pull it off and perhaps he...

    Dennis Gates... He's my pick.

I feel the same that a big time hire would be ideal. However, I don't think it will be Muss. From what I have heard Muss is a dick. I don't mean that in a bad way, but he will steamroll Coyle and I think Coyle needs someone that won't challenge him/go above him etc.

    Dennis Gates... He's my pick.

You forgot to mention that it would also be a good thing for the basketball community. In fact, it would be a big deal. Diversity in our athletic department is a good thing too. Sure, he doesn't have years as a head coach but he's played and been around the game his entire life.

Oh sorry I guess I was just looking at this year. Thanks for clarifying

    Dennis Gates... He's my pick.

I wouldn't be concerned about his lack of years as a head coach if he did smart things and brought in a veteran assistant (Phil Martelli type) and also brought in someone like Jared Nuness, Ben Johnson etc. I don't know much about the history of Cleveland State basketball but I don't think they...

Anybody catch Pitino's radio show today?

I wouldn't doubt that. Ritchie is a bit too arrogant for that though...

Anybody catch Pitino's radio show today?

What did you want him to say? Nobody is ever going to admit in public that they failed come on now.
