I was looking at the stats for the NC game and came to the realization that we dropped back to pass more than we ran in the game! Brosmer was 13/21, but also had 9 carries which were mostly scrambles or sacks. I think two were tush pushes so let's say he dropped back 28 times. Running backs...

P.J. Fleck on struggling offense: 'This isn't backyard football'

Congrats on the growing family, KoolAid! Having kids is the best!!! I'm glad you're bringing more of them into the world so the government can tax the heck out of their wages to pay for my social security when I retire. Maybe I'll get something after all!:p

What grade would you give Max Brosmer in his first game with the Gophers?

I'm not a great football mind, but don't you need at least an intermediate passing game to beat a loaded box? Won't a short passing game also lead to a loaded box? You've got to throw it over their heads to make them pay. I agree that NC was a decent team just like us. I think the line was...

What grade would you give Max Brosmer in his first game with the Gophers?

He was also probably the best that we could expect to get, right? No high end transfer QB would want to come to a team with our run heavy history. If we are more successful in the passing game this year, we might be able to level up slightly in our QB transfers.

I see where you are coming from and agree that our offense is often very boring. I do think Max Brosmer will prove to be a better quarterback than we've had in a while so we'll throw more this year. I'm also glad the other West schools are trying to modernize their offenses. If they are...

    GopherHolers: A Fleck temperature check

Did you notice ~90% of the poll answers were in the reasonable middle two answers range? Bad - Can’t take this for much longer. Seat should be warm at least Votes: 5336.3% So-so - Don’t want him fired, but need to see improvement Only 6% in the "Fleck needs to be fired now" category. More of...

    The inability to throw downfield

I was wondering the same thing EG#9. Thanks for your analysis! I still think it's mostly a lack of speed. Well, I think we should include quickness and explosiveness because these things are usually closely related to speed. We've seen the same problems with other historically "boring"...

    Week 1 Other Games Thread

Top SEC teams just steamrolling their opponents. Speed and talent at WR seems to be the biggest difference. MN, WI & Iowa mostly just hope we have good TEs. So jealous of those recruiting bases. I’m still hopeful all the money in the Big Ten will eventually help us lure more of the talent...

    GopherHolers: A Fleck temperature check

I like PJ. He seems to run a good, respectable program and sets a good example for these young men, most of which will never play after college. However, this is the Big Ten. We are the first or second richest conference in college football. Just about any B1G program can hire the best...

This thread turned out way better than I thought. Thanks for your thoughts! I get that some of you are worn down. It's reasonable because the Gophs have not been good for a large portion of their relatively recent history! I came home from the state fair today and my dog wasn't here to greet...

I just don't get why many of you follow the Gophers when you seem so constantly upset with them. I'll never get it, but to each their own. They are just entertainment for me and no result will change my life. In any case, here's what I liked about yesterday: College football is back and...

What grade would you give Max Brosmer in his first game with the Gophers?

I was very concerned with Max's play early, but impressed with it late. Looked like a classic case of first game nerves playing at a higher level to me. He tried to do too much running around and fumbled on an aggressive scramble up the middle for good yards. He really seemed to lay it all...

Explain it to me like I'm five years old

I don’t like speculating and have to assume the kickers preference was a part of, but not the only thing, determining that play call. Most of the people on here seem fine with just running it for a couple yards and kicking it and just disagree with the direction of the run. I disagree and...

CFN: Minnesota College Football Preview, Best Players, Season Prediction, Win Total 2024

Penn State is a 50/50 game? We are very unlikely to win that game. They are athletically at least a tier above us and will annually be in the 12-team college football playoff mix. We have a better chance against Michigan because of how many good players they lost and they have a new coaching...

    Sun exposure on north side?

I only go to a few games per year so have to admit that I have not experienced a sweltering early fall game yet, but put me in the sunny side camp. It's just beautiful being on the sunny side when all the conditions are right and it really is nice later in the year. It makes the whole...

Strack: PJ Fleck, Gophers Managing Portal Era Talent Better than Most Big Ten Teams

I agree PJ has done a good job with the portal, but these numbers can be misleading. Ohio State has 22 exits and only 7 additions, but take a look at those additions! They plucked probably the best college safety in the nation from Alabama, the top rated quarterback recruit from 2023 and a few...

CFP will put the 4 highest ranked conference champions as seeds 1 through 4. Best Notre Dame can do is 5 seed, must win 4 straight games.

Losing a power 4 conference championship game is really going to hurt, right? You play one extra, probably very intense and physical game, without a bye and then get to play a rested Notre Dame or some other team that might not have played in their championship? Now, a lot of those 5-12 slots...

    Annies Parlor

Actually, it's Bde Maka Ska which means "White Earth Lake". https://www.minneapolisparks.org/news/2018/01/29/lake_calhoun_officially_recognized_as_bde_maka_ska/#:~:text=Bde%20Maka%20Ska%20is%20now,oral%20history%20for%20many%20years. That still seems a little risky to me. I think they should...

Who else is optimistic about the 2024 season?

I see both positive and negative potential outcomes to the season, but see no reason to be pessimistic. It would just put me in a sour mood about something in which I have no control. To quote Rudolf Abel in Bridge of Spies in one of my favorite movie lines (and movies) of all time, "Would it...
