What I'd like to see vs Ohio State

"Once you cross your own 45 or so, it should be 4 down territory. " This should be the default practice in every game. The most important thing in football is to own the ball.

SI: Gophers' PJ Fleck: Without NIL money, we can't keep team intact

"... University of Minnesota is at a disadvantage because of all the other big sports in this town." Yes.

SI: Gophers' PJ Fleck: Without NIL money, we can't keep team intact

Yes. Is the issue being studied? What explains the lack of championships?

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

I agree with giving Fleck more time. Despite this season's collapse, we've had a better chance of winning each Saturday under Fleck than we've had for a long time. Good discussion. Be well.

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

And your point is that but for the right coach (e.g. Alvarez, Fry) these schools would not be good programs? Well, we've tried Stoll, Salem, Holtz, Gutekunst, Wacker, Mason, Brewster, (Horton), Kill, Claeys, and Fleck since Warmath had the Gophers at the top. Who would you think could do in...

Post Game Thread: Minnesota Gives Up 600 Yards and 49 Points to Purdue

You're right, Minneapolis is a selling point for a lot of young people. They're on the field for the Gophers. Meanwhile some kids prefer a smaller, college town like Ames, Iowa City, Manhattan, Lawrence, Madison, Bloomington, Champaign, Boulder, Lincoln, et al.

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

That seems to be the prevailing explanation. I wonder why Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, et al survived with the loss of these Southern athletes?

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

I've heard this explanation before. I thought I'd look up a few of the Big 10 schools to see when they first had a black player. Here's what I found: Iowa 1895 Wisc 1929 NW 1893 Mich 1890 MSU 1913.

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

I guess my point is similar to yours, that the Gophers have not been a high national team since the early 60s and am asking GH subscribers why they think that's so. Why the decline and consistent lower level. I still don't get the nap jab, though. :)

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

Ok, I'm guessing your remark is a clever barb. But I'm too dull to understand. Would you explain it for this codger?

Fleck post-game on KFAN on Purdue: They’re explosive, they’ve been explosive all year...

OK, if we can't get better FB players to come to Minneapolis, why? This problem isn't unique to Fleck? This problem evolved right after the national championship caliber teams of the early sixties and was apparent by the 70s. Why? What happened to UM that didn't happen to our neighboring teams?

Or would rather coach on a college campus and not in a major metro area.

Post Game Thread: Minnesota Gives Up 600 Yards and 49 Points to Purdue

It's hard enough to recruit to Minneapolis without a year like this. I'd say it's fair to be concerned.

I'd expect several of those you named to be seeking opportunities elsewhere. Tis the way of D1 FB these days.

Understood. My comment was not a rebuttal.

    Having a star QB ......

Plenty of blame to go around. Not getting a first on third and one late in the game was the start of the panic. Then memories of NWern must have crept in along with the almost-loss to Iowa on a series of ole tackles during the punt return. The one thing teams must remember is that just...

    Having a star QB ......

Recruiting time and money are finite. Coaches need to focus on candidates whom they can hope to get to show up. The premier players are more likely to opt for settings they see as more desirable than UM and Minneapolis.
