STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

I know you are. My point is that since we didn't play southern schools but rather played Big Ten schools (who would also have been affected when Southern schools began to recruit everyone) why would Southern integration hurt UM more than the rest o our conference. No, Southern schools...

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

But if affected UM more? So much so that we went from competing for the Big Ten title occasionally to being in the lower half of the conference? Could it be that something else also changed here in the early sixties? Something that didn't happen in the other conference schools?

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

When did the gophers play southern schools? UM was a big ten powerhouse. They began to fade in the sixties and by the early 70 s they were about like now. As part of the same conference. No, something changed to the gophers in early 60s that did not affect all the other big ten schools.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

The Big Ten was integrated and UM was winning the conference. Also, if integration in Southern schools killed the UM why did it not affect the other Big Ten Schools.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

Over whom? The whole Big10 was integrated.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

But, but, but I thought the Metrodome was the death of Gopher football.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

No farther than UM was in the glory days.

STATE OF THE PROGRAM: Where is Gophers football right now?

What has made it difficult to recruit to Minneapolis for decades? That's the question that must be answered. If the answer is something that can be remedied then the program can return to prominence. If not, then not.

With realignment and NIL, what are reasonable expectations going forward?

We'll play 45 conference games in five years. I don't think in terms of disappointments since the new conference and NIL make the future so different from the past. I think UM will win about 22 of those 45 games.

So what bowl game will the Gophers get?

What should be done re recruiting that hasn't been done?

Former Gopher coach Jerry Kill becomes first NMSU coach to defeat a SEC opponent.

Football and controversy aside, I'm happy that Coach Kill is well enough to coach. Stay well, Jerry.

Fleck: There's a new era of college football, and we've got to continue to find creative ways to gain depth, keep depth, maintain depth, retain depth

Most of those older coaches have had big salaries and other income opportunities for years. They have enough saved to retire if they choose. And I certainly would.

    NIL and RS Strategy

Much as I dislike D1 FB becoming pro, the NIL might be the answer to the recruiting difficulty we face in Minneapolis. Top players seeking money may not be so picky about where they play. The problem with getting enough money to pay top dollar in the TCs is that so much fan money goes to the...

    It’s Time

Why not, indeed? Why is no one interested in answering that question? Has the U ever tried to learn why we can't recruit enough talent to be more than a middle-third Big10 team? Maybe they have and know there's nothing that can be done. I don't know.

An amazing collection of things I didn’t see coming

Good points well expressed. I expected 7-5 (NC, OSU, MIch, either Wis or Iowa, and one upset by a weaker opponent.) I over-estimated the team. Now 5-7 seems more likely. Too hard to even guess what next year will bring

An amazing collection of things I didn’t see coming

Yes, I should have written "enough" highly-rated. My point, still, is that there is something that keeps enough talent from choosing to play in Minneapolis. Even though they once did. If the U cared about this, they would research it to see why.

An amazing collection of things I didn’t see coming

Yes, we don't get the highly-rated prospects. We get good players that don't get offers from the top schools. It would be enlightening to research why we don't, but most people on this site blame coaches so they are not interested in such research.
