Ski-U-Max! Gopher Men's Basketball Adds Guard Duo to the Program - Maximus Gizzi (New Palestine, Ind.) and Max Lorenson (Eden Prairie, Minn.)

Brb I’m applying to the NCAA for a hardship waiver (had a shitty team for awhile now, it made me feel bad)

Ski-U-Max! Gopher Men's Basketball Adds Guard Duo to the Program - Maximus Gizzi (New Palestine, Ind.) and Max Lorenson (Eden Prairie, Minn.)

That is my thought as well. Might as well get some hard worker/team oriented/defensive guys to help the team gel and run good practices, or a local developmental project like Lorenson who won't be a locker room cancer when he doesn't play a minute all year.

A Decent pre-season projection (sort of) and nice write-up for a change (from CBS no less)

JCJ was 4th on the team last year with 21.5 minutes…I am expecting him to be in a similar range this year. I think Durkin and Willis will lead the team in minutes with Asuma right there too. Reynolds/Omot/Tyson as significant role players who could see serious minutes in the event of foul...

    TYSON TO GOPHERS

Hubert Davis took a roster with seven 5 star players and two 4 star players, mixed them with 3 highly regarded transfers (two 4 stars and one 3 star) and barely made the NCAA tournament's first 4 games. This is the equivalent of getting to pick your dodgeball squad from the entire school's...

    Tyson to Minnesota?

I like Niko's chances at rehabilitating him. He can point to his track record with Nique Clifford. After shooting 40% from 3PT (51.9% eFG) his first season of starting at Colorado, Clifford dropped to 28.8% 3PT (42.3% efG) his second season of starting. He transferred to CSU and improved to...

Zach Zenner interview nugget about Gophers

No offense taken, I’m not trying to make any kind of point other than I thought it was interesting because I’m a gopher fan and it was an interesting podcast listen during a slow time in the message board calendar.

Zach Zenner interview nugget about Gophers

I was listening to the Taekcast podcast today with guest Zach Zenner, and he was talking about how his coach at SDSU moved the practice time on Thursdays so him and a few teammates could attend their afternoon organic chemistry class...and he contrasted this with the University of Minnesota. He...

    Crickets

I'm sure he would be happy to have them, but at what price? And what promised role? Reading between the lines I don't think it was in the budget to sign both of those guys and not give them minutes. Gotta trust Niko on this one. I don't think he told them to hit the road because he didn't want...

    Crickets

I’ve thought for a while we were done with the core of our team. We have had interest in guys like Cade Tyson, Elijah Gray, and Graydon Lemke. Im sure there are more guys we are talking too but the media doesn’t know about (seems like most of our commits have come out of the blue, without...

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I think you’d see JCJ (6'8" 230) play some center when Vaihola was not in the lineup. Durkin and Omot still have decent size for wings. Only other options on the roster at that point are Grove (6'9" 220?) and Reader (6'8" 215?). It's gonna be a hard sell to a post of any quality "hey you prob...

And we have a new player on our team.... Chance Stephens

He shot 7/10 from 3PT against Wake Forest as a freshman! That is Brandon Johnson territory. Weird trajectory where he played a lot at the beginning of his freshman year, got 4 starts in midseason, then kinda got benched the last couple months of the season. Missed the next season altogether...

RandBall: U’s Niko Medved says transfer portal recruiting ‘a lot like NBA free agency’

ChatGPT says Oumar Ballo, Tomislav Ivisic, Vlad Goldin, and Danny Wolf. I know it missed a few (like Northwestern's Keenan Fitzmorris who averaged 2 points and 1 rebound, and we pursued last year). But your point stands...there just aren't very many and the good ones want a big paycheck at a...

RandBall: U’s Niko Medved says transfer portal recruiting ‘a lot like NBA free agency’

Cade Tyson? I don't really follow this much though. I listened to the Talk Gopher Buckets podcast today and Niko specifically mentioned how they have more analytics than you could ever imagine to evaluate guys in the portal, and one of the things they are looking at is bringing in players who...

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Major caveat that Dawson Garcia was apparently the majority of our NIL budget last year. I think one site was ranking these with all players, not just transfers.

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Yeah especially his senior year he was good...I'm saying I thought he would be a first team all B10 kind of guy.

Which Gophers did you miss on badly - you thought XYZ Gopher would be much better or much worse?

Oldies but goodies: Oto Osenieks - thought he would become our Toni Kukoc Chip Armelin - very athletic, I thought he was a diamond in the rough Tubby could develop. He ended up having a nice senior year at Southern Miss (16 ppg) Lawrence Westbrook - he averaged something absurd like 40...

EXCLUSIVE: Minnesota head coach Niko Medved on returning to his alma mater! | OFF THE CAROUSEL (video)

A couple nuggets he mentioned I thought were interesting: "Positional length matters more as you come up" basically the first thing he mentioned they were looking for, after the generic stuff about finding "their guys" Signing players is kind of like buying a house… Sure he might like a house...

    Jefferson is Gone

I read somewhere that Niko really wanted him (don't remember where). That can be consistent with the idea that Jefferson was asking for more money than we could allot him (especially with Gonzaga sniffing around) and so Niko decided to pass on him.

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I wonder if AJ Smith is a good defender. He's a 25% 3PT shooter, and averaged less than an assist per game...maybe he defends well? He does seem to rebound well for a guard.

Colorado State heading into last year

Vaihola 20 min 4 points JCJ 20 min 8 points Durkin 31 min 15 points Asuma 28 min 9 points Willis 33 min 11 points Omot 26 min 13 points Reynolds 22 min 9 points Turner 20 min 6.5 points Spot work: Grove, Shinholster, any additional pieces we bring in like the reserve from Temple Elijah Gray...
