Dennis Evans - Is it time to recommit?

Agreed, I'm sure money is the biggest factor. I also wonder if Pharrell Payne's emergence had anything to do with it. I can't see those two on the floor at the same time with their skillsets. And if Payne is only a year ahead of Evans, while Payne is getting 30 minutes a game...hard to get on...

What grade would you give the Gophers 2022-23 basketball season?

I gave it a D because as far as I know there were no off the court scandals, and I liked what I saw from Payne and was pleasantly surprised by Ola-Joseph. If there were no promising freshmen or if there was off the court trouble, definitely an F.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS NEBRASKA BTT WIN OR SEASON'S OVER IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I kept thinking about how Payne would have been in 7th or 8th grade when Walker was a senior in HS. Crazy how COVID and transfers has led to these age gaps. And Payne held his own physically.

Recruiting the next few years in Minnesota

    I mean...we have what, 2 guards total?

New Commit: Corey Gaynor, guard out of Florida!!!

Weird to think that when he was graduating highschool in 2017, some of his future 2023 teammates were in 6th grade.

Fleck and Fickell go back on forth about Martin Owusu negative recruitment

That's the most milquetoast half denial he could make. Just own it at that point man.

Souhan: The wait for Evans and Christie could feel long as a Minnesota winter, but Johnson should be viewed similarly. He was hired to recruit.

Worried me too. The conclusion I drew from it was that he had promised Carrington and/or Henley big minutes and couldn't break that promise. Doesn't seem to be working out vey well so far.

    Too much Mo?

My theory is he partially likes it as a recruiting tool. He can hold up a Mo or a Rodney Smith as a bellcow back who gets showcased in the B10 against the best teams. He tells recruits that if you come to MN and beat out the competition, I will feed you the ball and you will have great exposure...

Former Gopher Troy Stoudermire says reason why Gophers have no luck is because he hasn’t received a Gopher sweater from the program.

To be fair records like this exist because of the dire state of our program in 2008/2009. His best statistical game ever was our 55-0 loss to Iowa in 2008 when he had 283 return yards on 9 total returns. Probably won't ever be broken with all of the touchbacks.

    Christie

I love that both Dennis Evans and Cam Christie seem to not be egotistical.

Gophers among favorites to land 4-star 2023 center Dennis Evans

Strictly off these quotes I like our chances. TCU - they are high energy and professional in practice MN - liked energy and noted play style, talked about his fit in the defense, mentioned Ben, envisioned himself growing into an offensive role

Gophers among favorites to land 4-star 2023 center Dennis Evans

Also, he seems like a different kind of kid (good thing). Doesn't have social media, I remember hearing a quote that he wasn't necessarily looking for early playing time/bright lights...I'm not at all concerned that he's taking a while to weigh his options and make an unemotional decision.

Most dominant modern day BIG performance?

The Iowa game under Kill felt better. Man it never felt like MSU had a chance though today. Most games when we are up against a "blue chip" opponent I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop...felt like we were playing a directional team from Michigan today not the Spartans.

    Mo in the NFL?

Unfortunately I think he will likely go undrafted, or 4th-7th round at best. Which sucks because I love him and he's given so much to this program. Hope he wins some postseason awards.

Jamison Battle: Hey everyone, earlier today my bike was stolen while I was in class.

It's been this way on the west coast for years, unfortunately. There is an RV that drives around our town and it has maybe 20 some odd bikes strapped to it. They are 100% stolen and will be parted out/resold. It's really frustrating that more is not done about it.

FiveThirtyEight: Where should the Big Ten expand next?

We shall see. My area (Rogue Valley) has had bad fires the last couple years and people are still moving here. I think the wetter areas like Portland/Seattle and other coastal areas will do just fine. I think a greater threat to the population growth in the PNW is the cost of living/family...

FiveThirtyEight: Where should the Big Ten expand next?

Also the West Coast is growing while the Rust Belt is static. Here are the populations (millions). Year Oregon Washington Ohio Michigan 2000 3.9 5.9 11.4 9.9 2022 4.3 (+10%) 7.8 (+32%) 11.7 (+2.5%) 10 (+1%) These conference alignment moves are made with a decades long future view...
