Gophers in CSUF G transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. top 3

Check the transfer thread from last year after Samuels commits. It's completely crickets as far as any news of us reaching out to more players, and is just a bunch of us Gopherholers arguing. Funnily enough, you are mocking GopherWeatherGuy for being concerned about our ability to bring the...

Whose development was accelerated by the lack of guards, that will benefit us next year? Carrington shot 32% on the year and I don’t think really developed much. JOJ annd Payne didn’t see the time/development they did because of our lack of guards. Everyone else is gone.

It did not pay off for him. We had our worst season in the history of the program. One of the guys being baptized by fire transferred after starting over half the games as a freshman. Cooper transferred as well, after playing more minutes and taking more shots in the B10 than he did in the Ohio...

Gophers in CSUF G transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. top 3

Talon Cooper was a pretty good "get" for us. He was being recruited by USC, Iowa State, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, South Carolina and Florida. He ended up not being a particularly good fit, but part of that IMO was roster construction/coaching. IMO the real failure...

STrib: Gophers men's basketball team can't wait to unveil redshirt freshman Kadyn Betts

The point I am driving at -- if Battle was not taking any shots, do you think everyone else's shooting % would stay the same? Again, I agree that Battle played poorly last year. Him leaving the team doesn't mean everybody else just scales up their rate stats to their expanded minutes/shot...

STrib: Gophers men's basketball team can't wait to unveil redshirt freshman Kadyn Betts

I’m not arguing that his % was not lower than the team average. You said “If Battle didnt take a shot all season, the Gophers would have shot a better %. Thats a fact.” So I’m wondering in this scenario where he doesn’t take a shot, is everything else held constant? Battle is still out there...

STrib: Gophers men's basketball team can't wait to unveil redshirt freshman Kadyn Betts

So in this scenario where Battle plays the same number of minutes but takes 0 shots all season, do other teams still assign him the same amount of defensive attention?

Three power 5 schools. One of them a was a #1 seed, the other the hometown squad. That tells me this guy is much more highly coveted than the guy who lists us along with 5-6 low/mid majors. Very good FT shooter too.

2023 College Basketball Transfer Portal Watch Thread

So he was a talented recruit back in 2018, and he played parts of 3 seasons for Idaho. Spent last year playing football, then joined the basketball team in December after the football season was over. If this guy is literally your last scholarship instead of burning it like we have in the past...

North Texas transfer PG/C-USA POTY Tylor Perry

41% from 3P, 87% FT shooter, seems to be a guy who can handle point duties if necessary...wow this would make me feel better about the Gophers if we could nab him. Here's a fun stat. He went 157/180 on the season shooting free throws. For reference, Payne was our leading FT shooter (53/109)...

Gophers in N Alabama transfer Daniel Ortiz top 6

It's also simplistic to think about it at as 8-9 guys splitting time in one game. It's 8-9 guys splitting time over the course of the season. Guys get benched (e.g. Henley, Samuels) for performance reasons or are hurt (Battle, Garcia, Carrington). Ben simply can't just count on 7 guys to play...

Gophers in N Alabama transfer Daniel Ortiz top 6

Mike Mitchell is our point guard. He averaged 5 assists per game, good for 2nd in the WCC. Daniel Ortiz averaged 1 assist per game. Fourth on his own team. He's not a PG. He is a surprisingly good rebounder though, tied for 3rd on his team with 3.8 RPG and had two double digit rebound games. I...

Agree with all of this. I'm not particularly confident either...I think he needs to sell more guys on the vision of playing time, and then not feel bad when an inferior player is unhappy and transfers. I would much rather have that than the games where we only have 6 scholarship players suiting...

Gophers in N Alabama transfer Daniel Ortiz top 6

My main issue with this reasoning was that we did have a starting position to offer. We had one (1) guard with college experience under his belt at the time of Samuels committing. My only guess is that Ben promised Henley and Carrington significant playing time right off the bat, thought Ihnen...

KC Star: Kansas took two D-line transfers from Minnesota. They think Jayhawks are ‘hungrier’

I'm reviewing Austin Booker's career stats thus far, and it appears he compiled two (2) tackles in two years. Doesn't seem he had much of an appetite?

Caledonia native Eli King in portal from Iowa State

I'm curious if Ben will pursue him, seeing as how we have Asuma committed for the following year. He was a good football prospect too, wonder if he is thinking about that?

    Cameron Christie COMMITS!

Yup, it only worked out when the PF he couldn't guard couldn't keep up with him so he got more open shots. So he was a liability on defense but made up for it on offense. This year he couldn't guard quicker 3's, but also couldn't get his shot off as easily against them. I am not optimistic...

    If the current guys stay....

I have no inside knowledge but there is no way Battle/Cooper go from being 36-37 mpg guys to 25 mpg. Unless this was a tourney team that had a real shot at making a run. I still think Payne/Garcia/Portal Wing/Carrington/Portal PG plus JOJ/Christie/Fox/Ihnen contributing has a shot to be a...

    If the current guys stay....

I think our best chance at improvement will come from the 2nd year leap that Payne, JOJ, and Carrington can make. And actually having a player who can dribble the ball up the floor and guard an opposing PG. I liked Henley but he was a project and not a sure thing. I also liked Chip Armelin and...

Treyton Thompson has officially entered the transfer portal

I really hope so. I was really annoyed when he basically shut down recruiting early the last couple years. Taurus Samuels, Danny Ogele, Charlie Daniels, and handing Ramberg a scholarship were inexcusable. Unfortunately I think the answer is being a little bit "slimier". He's going to have to...
