All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

That season deserves a deep dive--I'd really love to know why a 93 loss Padres team would waive him after 56 games. Was he that much of a cancer in the clubhouse? I could see it--I recall part of his legend was sending a live rat to a female sportswriter back in the mid '80s during a game...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

Somehow, someway Mike Fetters popped into my head for DBacks/Angels. No idea how. I’ve been sloppy in December-lost the other day because my theory that every player whose baseball card I owned eventually played for the Rangers was proven wrong with Dave Kingman.

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I had no idea that White had played with the Yankees, but I was certain the other three (Pelphrey, Cuddyer, and ???--can't recall who it was) had been with the Mets, so I figured White had to wear the pinstripes. Helpful info for the Grid! As for today's puzzle, somehow I lucked into getting a...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

Got myself a home run today (although I'm a bit confused on what "today" is--it lists December 10, but I'm already on December 12 over here, so 🤷‍♂️). Anyway, it's the one with the Mets/Yankees tie-in.

Alternative Christmas Music - Deep Cuts Edition

Bomani Jones & Spencer Hall were recently discussing their favorite Christmas songs on Jones' podcast and talk turned to Christmas songs on the dirty side. Here's Jimmy Butler (not that one) with Trim Your Tree:

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

Ever since Quentin Tarantino released Jackie Brown way back in the mid '90s and I laid eyes on Pam Grier and heard about the influence of her blaxploitation/grindhouse movies, specifically Coffy and Foxy Brown, I've been hoping to catch up with the movies and finally had the opportunity as they...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I blew my perfect December yesterday on a greedy move--I was going for a low score and I knew Juan Beniquez played for the Rangers and knew he played first base in his career, but it turns out that it didn't happen until later in his career. I guess I can concentrate of the holiday season now...

Rob Manfred Claims There's 'Buzz' Around 'Golden At-Bat' Rule Among MLB Owners

You know where else you can find a buzz, Mr. Manfred? When spreading manure and this idea is akin to that. (pretty proud of myself for this zinger, even if it took me two days to formulate it into words)

Movies that hold up vs. those that don't

In my ongoing effort to chip away at the blind spot of serious movies from the late '70s to roughly 1985, I watched The Verdict last night and came away understanding why Bill Simmons touts it so heavily on The Rewatchables. Given my moniker, you might think I've seen the entirety of Paul...

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

Nice work--I have to imagine that Mendoza is the only household name (in homes of baseball aficionado, at least) for a player who has a sub 0.0 WAR score for their career. I went with former Twin and victim of leukemia at the age of 26, Danny Thompson.

    All Things TV Series Recommendations/Reviews

I just finished Netflix’s A Man on the Inside starring Ted Danson with Michael Schur as the creator and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quick 8 episodes and it breezed along with a wonderful combination of humor, heart, and intrigue. Danson was excellent.

All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

I'm proud to say and will be updating my resume to state that I pitched a perfect month on the baseball grid for November--It was pretty fraught towards the end as a few of my Achilles' heels (D-Backs, Rockies, Marlins, Negro League participants) seemingly would end my quest, but the final day...

All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

I woke up at 3:30 AM to go to the can. While on said can, I check the score of the game and see the Vikings appear to have a comfortable 24-16 lead and then add the field goal to go up by 11 with 2:00 to go. I figure it's safe to go back to bed, but check once more, and see the Bears scored...

All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

Jamiche, that Vikings squad was -3 for the season in point differential and also negative on the yardage gained—I’m not saying this season should be confused with the ‘97 Vikings but the ‘22 version was doing it with smoke and mirrors...
