CBS Sports: The $10 million club: College basketball's portal recruiting hits unthinkable levels of financial chaos

My guess is that of the guys who can get that, maybe 20% of them would have the discipline to execute the plan.

Baylor loses every player on roster

True. But it wasn’t fixed. This was a money grab by the large schools. Pay for play keeps all but the most outstanding players in college longer and theoretically creates a better product and more revenue. They could care less about the lower level schools and barely care about non revenue...

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

I bet very few teams get near fifteen scholarships ever. 12-13 scholarships and a couple of walk ons with some cash associated with it. That’s a lot of bodies. No need to have a whole roster of scholarship players.

Given that we were an Eric Harris cheap shot injury away from winning one, I completely agree.

I thought I just read a statement the NCAA denying football players another year that they are taking eligibility rules seriously at least in part because perpetual eligibility denies others opportunities. There is no way they can rule on all these cases individually. It will be yes or no and...

    Chansey Willis Jr Commits

Chris sat in a dome luxury suite and was identified by a Michigan State coach who tattled. Against recruiting rules. Bay pounced. The rest is history. At least we didn’t lose a national championship because of a boneheaded timeout with none left.

Baylor loses every player on roster

It’s easier to gripe when it’s a widespread group of people we see as the “problem.” I think the OP makes a good point about the issue of rosters depleting. Not such a great point about the masses on this board that think we’re the only Power 5 with the problem.

KG wants to come back and help MN sports including the Gophers

These guys are selling their names. Others will do the heavy lifting while they swoop in to seal the deal with starry eyed recruits.

You should be right, but I can share from years of working with the 18-25 year old cohort, they often understand the big picture reality but struggle applying it to themselves and see themselves as the exception to the big picture. In some ways that’s great and they achieve things few thought...

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Unless you’re a blue blood with agents coming to you, it’s going to be about relationships. Guys you recruited before and guys you know by playing against them. If I’m counting correctly, we have one guy Niko coached, one who was an opponent in conference, and one from a lower level in state...

Thanks for posting. I had mentally put together a much snarkier post making the same point. Yours is much better.

Great pick up on many levels. Fits the system. Seems like a beloved alum was part of the process. And he committed knowing we have fist full of guards and he wasn’t afraid to take on the challenge. Says a lot about his character. Still need a good big who can play 25 minutes.

    2025-26 Gopher Mens Basketball Roster

I have no idea but I can speculate that the recruiting process deemed him to slow for high majors. That’s a guess.

Does anyone know why he was relatively lightly recruited with his gaudy stats?
