The single biggest issue with our roster in 2024 was the lack of a strikeout pitcher - we just did not have a healthy pitcher who could regularly make opposing batters swing and miss. I am not saying we will have one this year, but this Hosick game versus Miami (Ohio) is at least encouraging.

Reminder : The Gophers finished with an RPI ranking of 76 last year (and that is with Jess Oakland, the best player in the Big Ten, on our team). Cal, Miami of OH, and Utah all had much better RPI’s last year. We need significant improvement from last year to hang with these caliber of teams.

Actually, I expected that Natalie Susa was our hope for elite-level pitching with additional hope for other pitchers on staff (Schwartz/Richardson/Hosick and maybe Snippes/Grayson) to develop at close to, or at least closer to, that level.

Do you know what message boards like Gopherhole are all about? The conversation doesn’t “matter” to the team and it’s performance but it “matters” to the human beings that attempt to find enjoyment through the Gopher softball fan community.

I simply cannot imagine a world where Stanford University (with all that west coast technology money) will ever be irrelevant in anything, including sports. Any other school may struggle under those circumstances, but Stanford is special, whether we like it or not. Life just is not perfectly...

That approach that you write above is for the coaches and the players. As for me as a fan, realistic expectations are important so I avoid becoming disillusioned by disappointment. One could have never stayed a Gopher football fan over all of these years without realistic expectations...

I assume those are players that want to play the big southern schools in the SEC or ACC as their competition. That is my best guess.

Not many out-transfers though. That is where the rubber hits the road on this issue.
