Thank you for the NIL and visa reminder. I completely forgot about that.
I share your concern about high school players as I can see the upper tier kids going to the CHL, and then hoping to sign with a college team when they graduate high school. Or maybe not if they’re drafted at 18, and their...
I think it’s August 1st that NCAA schools can start signing CHL players. So how do you know we aren’t getting any of them to come to Minnesota? I’m sure it will come down to NIL funding so start making your donations.
I think the mid February start date for college baseball is the number one hindrance for northern teams. Over the years there has been talk of moving to a mid March start, but that brings it’s own issues for playing games after school has let out for the summer. But I think it would be great for...
You want quality B1G hockey, then dropping the CHL ban is a great step. I live in the heart of CHL’s Western Hockey League and seeing some of those players move on to college hockey is going to be great.
The CHL is for 16 to 20 year olds who sign developmental contracts that provides...
I half agree with you because I think there are both prima donna and team players. Coaches like Neon Deion will take the primas and coaches like PJ won’t.
If a team signed a player, they will expect him to buy into their program and culture, and a good coach isn’t going to let a player choose to not participate in all aspects of the program, even if they are paid $10 million.
In your example, I’m sure even PJ would be ticked off if a player...
I’m kind of the other way. A $10 million QB will be all in on PJs for the time he’s here. Not because he’s bought into it, but that’s what he’s getting paid to do.
While we may never have those highest paid players, I think there is more NIL cash to be found in Minnesota. If we make the top 25...
Good thought! I like the division-less setup we have now because we play our two most important rivals each year and get to see every other B1G team on a consistent basis.
If I remember correctly, the grandfathered players are essentially the preferred walk-ons (PWO). This has nothing to do with scholarship players, but is about PWOs who had no pay beyond training table and coaching, and maybe a very rare NIL deal. I believe PWOs have always been one year offers...
This is where boosters can make a difference. Coyle has had enough time to recruit fans with deep pockets, and if he hasn’t, that’s on him. Another reason is maybe he just doesn’t want to make a change, which would be moderately surprising.
Last summer Painter was given a new contract with a good base salary plus $1.2 million in incentives: His base goes up each year:
2024-25: $4.85 million
2025-26: $4.97 million
2026-27: $5.175 million
2027-28: $5.2 million
2028-29: $5.225 million
