    Fire Ben Johnson

What his record actually is is bad enough. I don't see much value in holding close wins against him. If the trend were reversed, I also wouldn't give him credit for close losses. The team and the coach earned all of those wins.

    Fire Ben Johnson

Last years dramatic Cinderella postseason run to the second round of the NIT. Actually, probably the Michigan win his first year. There was genuine excitement, but that may have been the high water mark.

Very true, but it would still be an upgrade. Tubby and Pitino were both fired for performance, so we should not lose sight of the fact that performance that matches or is worse than Tubby's six year tenure should be a fireable offense.

Neal: Moving forward with Ben Johnson is the only option for Gophers men’s basketball

I am not a fan of using him taking a roster that was picked to finish last and bring somewhat competitive as an argument for keeping him. This is year four, so the roster is on him. Whether he assembles rosters picked to finish awful and then finishes just poorly, the result is the same as if he...

    2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

One on one with a goalie in a live game is different than having all the time in the world for some gimmicky approach (swinging really wide, slowing down, etc) in a shootout. Id like to see us better at shootouts so we could earn the points, but scoring on a penalty shot or shootout is a...

    Fire Ben Johnson

If Ben's high water mark was winning one NIT game, that only seemed like any kind of an accomplishment because of how historically bad his first two seasons were. When your best finish is worse than the season that got a coach fired in 2013, then things are not going well for the program.

***OFFICIAL ILLINOIS AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Certainly tough to do so. That's why it behooves you to defend well enough to not let the opponent shoot 64%.

How much trouble is Ryan Day in?

I was just about to ask if winning the national title is better than beating Michigan in Columbus.

Back to the never ending discussion of playing to win vs not to lose, playing to win is throwing it deep on 3rd and 11 to virtually end the game. Playing not to lose would have been running into the pile to make ND burn their last timeout before punting and giving them the ball with meaningful...

    Typical reaction to win

Two things can be true at the same time. (1) Johnson had been the worst coach of my time following the Gophers and deserves to be fired and (2) it is a lot of fun to beat a ranked Michigan team at home. That game didn't change number1 , which i have talked about plenty and don't need to pick the...

    2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

I don't like blaming refs for losses, and I'm not here, because the team made plenty of mistakes, but I think i counted 6 obvious Notre Dame penalties that weren't called in late 3rd/OT. Whether we "blame" them or not, they were awful.

Shooter: Alumni and assorted boosters are pushing Ryan Saunders, the ex-Gopher who is an assistant for the Denver Nuggets, for the Gophers head job.

I don't hate the idea as much as some on here, but I'd prefer a proven winner as a head coach at the D1 level. He is an assistant at a winning NBA team, so hopefully he's getting a chance to see what right looks like at a high level in terms of in game coaching, but the recruiting aspect of...

Is it fair that Notre Dame is independent?

I've always thought the "they wouldn't be this good if they had to run the power conference gauntlet" was cheap circular logic used by people who claimed a 12-0 midmajor wasn't very good to try to explain away them beating a top team in a bowl game. Easy to say and impossible to disprove. Sure...

Shooter: And word in coaching circles is that Tom Crean would love to have the Minnesota job.

If we get a new coach, and they post a better B1G winning percentage than Johnson at the same University, will you admit that coaching has some bearing on performance?

    Fire Ben Johnson

If the narrative that Johnson was not Coyle's pick and he can't fire him, Coyle should have quit. Coaching decisions are the AD'S job, so you need to be able to say "either I'm the AD or I'm not." That would be the same thing I would expect Fleck to do if Coyle tried dictating to him who starts...

A little off topic, but the single worst call i ever saw in any level of football was an intramural flag football game I played in at the U. We were in defense, one of my players jumped the route, leapt in front of the receiver, and intercepted the football. The ref through a flag on him for...

PJ was hired 8 years ago today. What grade would you give the Fleck era?

I the out cream puff non conference point is well taken, though we also had a non-con loss against a top 10 TCU team. I think where our analyses probably differ is that I don't see "leaving wins on the table" as a plus factor. Assuming equal schedules (and obviously no two schedules are...
