Good point. I'm not sure that I would have wanted to coach in the same city with my entire side of the family either.

In terms of delays, perhaps. In terms of finding a coach with potential, no. There are more good coaches in the D1 universe than DeVries, McCollum, and Medved. For example, Kent State last night won at St. Bonaventure by 19. Their coach has a .621 winning percentage there, nine 20-win...

Maybe he didn't but it's a moot point now. I don't expect next season to be particularly good in terms of wins/losses but I look forward to a different style of play and a fresh clock that allows the new coach to recruit younger and potentially multi-year players.

    2025 Transfer Portal Watch

Frank's advanced stats are pretty good. His player efficiency rating in conference games was 22.6 (barely behind Garcia's rating). If he qualified (in terms of minutes) for the leaderboard, he would be #1 in offensive rebound percentage and #4th in total rebound percentage in the conference...

Good player but I think I'd rather have Valpo's Schwieger who is also in the portal.

Final Field of 68 Projection: Biggest Questions? Does SEC get 14 & does Mountain West get at least 4?

Seems like most of the time that the selection committee overloads invites from one conference, that comes back to bite them in the ass. We'll see if it does this time. Of course, even if that happens, it won't prevent them from doing the same thing again.

    Dawson Garcia returning

Even with this explanation of how Garcia might get a sixth year, we haven't seen any evidence that Garcia wants to come back for another year. Garcia might have to be considered the most loyal Gopher basketball player in history if he returns. He just played three years with teams that...

Final Field of 68 Projection: Biggest Questions? Does SEC get 14 & does Mountain West get at least 4?

Agreed. The NCAA tournament should be a reward for a good season (your performance), not something that occurs because of your place on an index (heavily influenced by your primary opposition's performance). Of course, there is also the factor of conference expectations. The decision makers...

Or one could just look at the rosters on College Basketball at Sports Reference, or ESPN, or google "Colorado State Basketball" and click "Roster" in the search results. I'm always amazed how helpless and lazy people are in an age where information is right at their fingertips. I wonder if...

    Dawson Garcia returning

That's because he did his first year at a JUCO and they've already let athletes (at least one anyway) ignore that year.

You're probably right. I guess I don't expect people to do that for no reason. Another reminder that no matter how low I rate humanity, it sometimes isn't low enough.

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

I think he was a bit over $2 mill by now. I think the next lowest in the conference is over #3 mill though so they should be willing to pay that if they want to sign a coach who will have other suitors.

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

I don't know. I have mixed feelings. I watched the second half of the Colorado State game and I didn't see a single shot clock violation. Ben's teams could get three of those in a half! Also, there was too much quick passing and cutting in the half-court and not nearly enough dribbling...

    Dawson Garcia returning

The only thing I can think of is if the NCAA gives him do-over for his second year (at UNC) because he played only half a season before quitting the team. Who knows? There are a number of seniors who are in the transfer portal apparently hoping to get another year because they played one or...

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

We just had 5 losing seasons in 6 years. I'm confident under those circumstances that Medved will be a "program changer." If he makes the NCAA tournament, I hope he is eliminated by next weekend so he can start here soon afterwards.

Hallman: Black coaches' shelf life is much shorter & benefit of the doubt much less practiced as opposed to their White counterpart

Like Fred Hoiberg at Nebraska. I browsed a Husker basketball forum recently (I think it was after Iowa beat them in the last game of the season and knocked them out BTT). Someone mentioned that his buyout was about $10 million. At least the Gopher athletic department isn't willing to be...

That seems like a lot for him. He had a good game overall against us but he didn't do so much when Frank Mitchell was guarding him. He's also not so great as a rebounder.

The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

That's really complimentary! I'm thinking that I might miss the three or four shot clock violations in a game though.

Mark Coyle: The Gophers' Michael Scott

He was "full-time" as an assistant. Obviously, vocabulary isn't a strength of yours. Goetz's contract make him incredibly cheap to fire. Without that, he may not have been.
