    2025 high school football thread

At our school at the beginning of the school year the AD was imploring parents to "apply" even though it wasn't actually necessary for free or reduced lunch for enrollment for athletic purposes.

Who was your team growing up through HS and College?

I was a wrestler in elementary school and won a Walkman like radio in a drawing at a tourney in Worthington the year of the Elite 8 run. The tourney was the night of the Sweet 16 game and before that night I was vaguely aware of what was going down. I forgot all about the wrestling tourney and...

Arbitration ruling to determine who owns the Timberwolves and Lynx coming Friday or Monday

I was just going to post about the second bit and my underselling expansion fees.

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Which would be adequate for at the very least, the non- conference slate.

Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

If you're stooping to the Summit League add SDSU coach Eric Henderson. Keeps on winning despite year over year portal losses (Mayo at Kansas and Kyle at UCLA).

Arbitration ruling to determine who owns the Timberwolves and Lynx coming Friday or Monday

What's stopping the owners from charging an expansion style relocation fee? A-Lor have a lot of equity in the team and could sell a billion dollars worth of ownership in the team and still maintain controlling interest, with the cash paying the relocation fee. At the same time, they could...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Show of hands who thinks the city and/or state is going to be willing to pick up half the tab on a billion dollar arena downtown? Hard to see it happening in today's environment.

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Would be wierd sighlines, no? With Olympic sized ice? Problem solved with a removable elevated floor?

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Now we are up to "soooooo much money." Yes the answer is always other people's money. So tell the donors, taxpayers, sponsors, etc., why they should invest in Gopher basketball?

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Wolves will be there too. Sure, the Gophers should get in line but is the line going to move?

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Sure. Possible it happens. Quite improbable though. The temporary seating erected for the Vikings could have been built as a permanent addition for a relatively insignificant sum of money but here we are, how many years and coaches after the facilty was built, and we didn't need 2500 extra seats.

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

The bigger piece to all of this is that it will take a huge private investment to build a new arena. I don't see any appetite at the legislature for building stadiums and arenas, especially with looming budget deficits (imagine spending a $17 billion dollar budget deficit and raising taxes and...

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

Could say the same about FB. Why only 50,000 seats? Sleeping giant, etc. The stadium is actually appropriate sized. Williams Arena is too big.

Reusse: Unlike the Gophers’ coaching situation, the solution for Williams Arena is simple: Blow up The Barn

It reads like a conversation with an 80 year old man. But distilling down to the point, he's not wrong in the main premise - the Barn is past its use by date. Beyond that, is he suggesting a very small on campus arena for most games and higher attendance games be played at a new...

B1G soliciting preliminary bids from private equity firms

My clients sell to PE as an exit plan. Do the universities intend to exit athletics? I've suggested in the past that the schools drop the pretext of academics in athletics (at least revenue sports) and license name, mascot and tradition to entities who operate the revenue athletics, pay...
