All Things Players Coming and Going (26-27 Off-Season)

Christ. Bleyl makes it five in the first round for MSU.

Thank you Magic Johnson. Sure would be cool to be able to defer multiple first rounders

NCAA watch in round 2 begins with... Shocker!
MSU
BU
BC
UND (Ruck)
Umass
PSU
uw (Kurtz, big miss from MN)
VT
UMD (Plante)
Providence
Umass

Mackenzie (UND) goes 69th overall so UND D unit currently:
6th
9th
30th
69th

If they all make it to campus, could rival the 22-23 Gopher D unit

while i get your premise, I disagree from the standing of where they'll be in their career at the point of comparison (and because they're not going to be together long enough to get to that point). Year listed by comp to MNs team, though could in theory change due to 5 for 5 ruling. Apologies if my age math is wrong for the Gopher guys at the time. Points listed coming into the season for fairness sake

UND 26-27
Jr Boser (undrafted), 22 years old, 14 career points at ASU
Jr Emery (1, 30, 2024) 20 years old, 14 career points, shutdown D
So Laurila (5, 138, 2025), 19/will be 20 years old, 10 career points
So Verhoeff (1, 9, 2026) 18 years old, 20 career points

Fr Carels (1, 6, 2026), 18 years old
Fr MacKenzie, (3, 69th, 2026), 19/will be 20 years old
Fr Lindberg (undrafted), 19 years old
Fr Dumanski, (undrafted), 21 years old, solid healthy scratch/glue guy

MN 22-23
Sr Lacombe (2, 39, 2019), 21/22 years old, 64 points
Sr Johnson (1, 31, 2019), 21 years old, 41 points
Jr Koster (5, 146, 2019), 21 years old, 26 points
Jr Faber (2, 45, 2020), 20 years old, 26 career points
Fr Chesley (2, 37, 2022), 18/19 years old
Fr Luke Mittelstadt (would be 7, 197, 2023), 19 years old
Fr Thomas (6, 171, 2021), 19 years old

If UND gets an extra year out of basically all of of them, then probably ends up on par if not exceeding pending their growth trajectories. That's what makes the Gopher team that year so stupidly good (and extremely painful they didn't win it all). They got bonus years out of basically all of these guys. There's a huge difference in an 18 year old highly drafted guy and a very talented 2nd rounder in their 3rd/4th year.

Yep clearly his nhl team said you’re going to msu and in he goes. It’s going to be a weird team to watch Dev wise

It will be interesting to see how they divide up power play and 5v5 ice time amongst all those 1st rounders.

Good problem to have.

Harper committed to Michigan as expected.

Bigger gap between MN and the others than I thought. Also surprised to see MA that low. I thought they were 2nd for many years. Lots of talk out there about how the community aspect of hockey is pretty much gone and some think that is impacting their success in producing talent.

I'd be curious to see where the Canadian provinces fall on this list now. Too lazy to search for it.

If this is restricted to D1 men, Means roughly half of college hockey players are Canadian.

Thank the CHL and watch it continue to grow
Kind of depends on how all these leagues want to play it. Benefits are going to change in Jr and you’re seeing tons of us kids go up north (who will still be counted as US). Most of the also ran schools were already mostly Canadian

I mean... I'm sure 24-25 to 25-26 was already a huge jump in Canadians. The CHL is not going to be able to compete and keep the players up there. And they are better hockey players and will take American spots.

The CHL and USHL are not going to be able to keep guys in both directions as it sits now. The leagues realize that and benefits are going to have to improve on both sides of the border as they compete for players. That’s what I was meaning.

College will still be the end target for many guys, but if the benefits improve up in Canada, you’ll see more stay there and sign like we’ve seen multiple do thus far. Maybe they’ll lean in on being a dev league that ships them all to college, but hasn’t seemed like what they want to do thus far
