Big 12 Conference rebrands as “Monster Energy Big 12 Football”

That sounds cheap for such prominent sponsorship with each member school and about as tacky as a can of Monster energy spilled on the floor of a 7-11

The gap between the B1G/SEC and the ACC and Big 12 is huge. This is gross but for the member institutions, it's still real money they didn't have yesterday. For a school like Iowa State, that's 1% more revenue for doing nothing but wearing a jersey patch.

It's not like there isn't precedence for this, especially in that conference's for print. Does anyone remember the Winston Cup Series? Major auto racing named after a cigarette maker. I think after that sponsorship ended, a series of telecoms and then even Monster was the naming sponsor.

Selling the naming rights to your conference, for practically peanuts, doesn't strike me as a way to show people you should be on the same level as the P2.

This is high school level stuff, imo.

Does anyone really believe that Big 12 is on the same economic level as the P2? One would assume the Big 12 took the best deal it could get for something like this. Its not a huge sum but its not nothing. I wouldn't sell the name of my business for a lousy 1% increase in revenue but what choice does the Big 12 have? It's media deal is what it is and since signing its media rights deal, the cost of business thanks to revenue sharing has increased substantially. Non-P2 Schools are going to be hosting bake sales and selling butter braids door to door pretty soon.

I wasn't trying to imply that...(more below)

This is kinda my point. It shows how far they are from being P2 even though they like to think the gap isn't really that much.

Keep their dignity? ;)

Yep ;) And nothing wrong with them doing that, as long as they realize they are in the next tier down.

Each team can also make their own deal for team patches

XRP? So they are gonna do 2nd tier sh*tcoins and 2nd tier energy drinks as jersey sponsors?

I'm not one of those super purists but I hope I don't see the Gophers wearing NOS energy drink and the Melania scam coin
