Isaac Asuma is something of a dinosaur in the transfer portal era of college basketball. He’s a starting point guard about to enter his third season with the program he picked out of high school.
He found a home. Why mess with that?
“I really like Coach [Niko] Medved and his staff and what they have building here,” Asuma said Tuesday before a team workout. “That’s something I just want to be a part of, to change this program around.”
OK, so there are a few changes in his world. He’s sporting a new look with his hairstyle this summer, opting for braids. He says he’s growing out his hair.
He also won’t be the only Asuma from Cherry, Minnesota, on campus this fall. Younger brother Noah is set to join the Gophers baseball team as a freshman infielder.
“I’m super excited,” Isaac said. “I’m just excited for him to get down here and see him.”
