2026 World Cup Thread

My family and I will be in Buenos Aires next Saturday, which coincides with when Argentina would play if they advance-gotta think that will be an incredible experience, so I began this evening pulling for Messi and the boys but damn if Cabo Verde reeled me in. Long story, but I watched minutes 115-120 on a street corner in Lima viewing the game with other derelicts on a big screen at a greasy, open air burger joint-it’ll be one of my more memorable moments from this visit.

I'm the stereotypical American who thinks ... there's just not enough scoring.

And honestly the soccer I have watched elsewhere looks better outside the World Cup, it's kinda obvious these are cobbled together teams who aren't all that well coordinated / haven't been together very long.

I just can't get into it much 🤷🏼‍♂️
You must be watching a different World Cup than me...

Pulling for Morocco vs Canada, but Canada advancing might make Lalas explode, so I wouldn’t mind that.

Canada had already played better than their world ranking. Need Mexico and US to win one more to outplay their ranking. Too bad Panama sucked.

For me, it's even more the overall lack of scoring threats. There's maybe 20-30 shot attempts per game combined with only a few of them being on net. That is not a lot of action.
And then someone scores and they take it away.

Kinda a kick in the pants if you feel you’re short on scoring plays.

Brazil looks like a bunch of petulant children at the end. Shocker

Another comically bad bit of officiating down the stretch as well. You wonder why no one respects officials from top to bottom leagues all the way to Sunday leagues and youth soccer when you see how pros act at the end and officials do nothing to combat it.

You want excitement? Replay suspends the USA goal scorer for a game...Trump calls FIFA and now he's playing versus Belgium. Belgium not happy. Monday 7:00 Central

Again, we already have a World Cup thread on offense topic. Let's combine.

I thought reffing in the NFL is bad this is worse. And why only one ref on the field?

Great win from England and my goodness Mexico was a bunch of whiny assholes despite getting damn near every single break tonight

First match I'd seen Mexico play in the tournament. Ugghhh.... Doesn't sound like their fans were any better.

The only real major soccer event I've ever been to was the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas between the US and Mexico in 2021; stadium had to be 95% Mexico fans. US wins with a goal at around 118 minutes, 1-0. I feared for my life leaving the stadium and I've never left a stadium that fast. Heard afterwards there were a healthy number of fights and issues after the game in the stadium and the parking lot

Haaland. Unbelievable.

Hard to imagine an emerging star that has exploded as much as Haaland in the matter of just a few weeks here. What an incredibly likable and talented individual. It was just flat out awesome watching Norway prevail over Brazil. Crazy Scandahuvians!

GO HAALAND!!
