I know he's a left hander out of the bullpen and that in itself has intrinsic value but Whelan was agonizingly inconsistent with his control. His walk numbers got better last season but if he came in with a runner on 3rd I just assumed he was going to let him score on a wild pitch. Wish him the best in Columbia and I wish he stayed, but he is replaceable.
 

Gophers get another transfer commitment in Augustana RHP Ethan Hoffman (Belle Plaine). After limited use in 2025, logged a 4.67 ERA in 14 starts this past season. 71.1 innings, 25 BB, 73 K, .257 OppBA.

Noah chose to play baseball for the Gophers for his own reasons, unrelated to Isaac’s presence on campus. It’s a nice bonus having big brother around to provide guidance if needed, though.

“They’re excited that they will get to watch each other play live and not online or on TV,” Jolene said.

Convenient for her and husband Nick, too. The couple make the six-hour roundtrip drive to attend every home basketball game, even on weeknights when they have work in the morning. They put 35,000 miles on the car last season. This year, they’ll add car rides to baseball games.

“It’s worth it,” Jolene said. “We know it’s short-lived. In a blink of an eye, it will be over, so we want to enjoy it as much as we can.”
