Interesting baseball stats

That's amazing to think about. That has to have an overall impact on individual production.

Generally it's easy to see the impact on the micro-level. Batters rarely facing the same pitcher more than twice in a game. Odds are, one with 5 plate appearances in a game is going probably face 4 different pitchers. Most throwing at maximum effort.

On the macro-level there are so many reasons for this since Teddy Ballgame's era:

- Increase from 154 Regular Season games to 162

- Expansion 16 teams to 30. American League went up to 10 teams the season after he retired in 1960.

- Intra-League only to Inter-League play. The Splinter kept going against the same 7 teams, every year. The current Red Sox will play the other current 29 franchises.

- Starting Rotations have increased from 4 to 5. Pitching staffs have increased from 9-10 up to 13-14.

- Load management.

- Proliferation of international talent.

Courtesy of the Minnesota Treasure Island Baseball Network, current Dodger Freddie Freeman owns the longest active streak against the local nine by hitting in his last 20 contests against the Twins.

Ron LeFlore reached safely with a base hit against the Twins in a record 26 straight games.

Not a stat but certainly a unique play. Lots of people arguing about this but they got the call right based on the rules. Once the runner touches 2B the free advancement is over.

Freeloading Freedie, my Dad’s moniker for him, is the active leader on doubles and runs scored with Paul Goldschmidt in second place for each.

Yes, the rule makes perfect sense, you’re on/were on second, that’s all you’re entitled to.

Something I did not realize until seeing him in person, dude is a tall drink of water. Listed as 6' 4".

I guess I did see Freeman in person with the Braves in SD back in 2021. Must not have been paying attention.

Hitting streak vs the Twins is now at 21. Not much suspense last night, added another double in the 3rd inning, 2nd AB.
